Ron DeSantis is escalating his war with Walt Disney, threatening to tax its hotels and impose tolls on the roads leading into its theme parks as the Florida governor doubles down in his battle against 'woke' culture.
'Come hell or high water, we’re going to make sure that policy of Florida carries the day. And so, they can keep trying to do things. But ultimately, we’re going to win on every single issue involving Disney, I can tell you that,' he vowed during a speech at Hillsdale College in Michigan on Thursday.
'They are not superior to the people of Florida,' he said of the company.

NO special treatment!!!
Too bad DeSantis has no bombers.
Bombers would totally fix this.
I don’t like Diskey.
I don’t like woke culture.
I like DeSantis well enough (but I’ll be voting for Trump).
But we’re into a phase where the government just reaches out and crushes those who oppose it. If the Democrats do that (they sure do) then it is only fair that the Republicans also do it. But I would really like to live in a country where the government didn’t wake up everyday and say “Who can I stomp on today?”

As reported by the Orlando Sentinel, Disney is “avoiding some state and local taxes by selling theme-park tickets and other items to itself.” It seems that Walt Disney World sells hotel rooms, tickets, meal plans, and other travel package details to another Walt Disney Co. subsidiary called the Walt Disney Travel Co. Then, the company prices up the vacation packages and sells them to Guests at a new “retail price”.
Disney sells these packages to themselves for very low costs, as they are only taxed on that amount, and not the retail amount that Guests pay when booking a Walt Disney World vacation.
That speech at Hillsdale was excellent. The Gov. would make a great cabinet member for POTUS DJT 47 (or 48 if Kackles replaces the Demented One).
And it is all so unlikely that visitors to Orlando will know who is charging tolls on the roads and what entity is collecting the increased hotel occupancy tax.
You make a good point, but Disney has been getting special, obsolete carve-outs since the 1960s.
They wanted to get into politics, started pissing off the people of Florida and paid the price of not being special anymore.
After that, Disney-owned Republican legislators - and Disney-owned Democrat legislators on the plantation - can go back to giving Disney whatever they want.
One amazing thing about DeSantis is his ability to keep the weak Florida Republicans in line and working for a common goal. That is not an easy task.
Talk is cheap.
Totally agree that Disney has been getting special treatment, and that isn’t right.
desantis just signed a constitutional carry law for us floridians...
it goes into effect july 1, 2023...

Disney has been in bed with both political parties in Florida for the purpose of crushing - or at least tamping down - competing tourist traps in the state. Disney claimed they were entitled to special treatment because they were a special, wholesome company that would make families healthy and strong.
They are none of that anymore, if they ever were. It’s time Disney oligarchs belly up to the bar and pay their fair share and be treated as equals to other amusement parks.

Add a tax for pedophiles if you want them to cave quickly
liberals should LOVE this! Government raising taxes on evil rich corporations!
I honestly hope DeSantis stays in Florida and finishes this fight instead of running against Trump
That Hillsdale speech last night indeed was great, short and packed with awesome insights. I love how De Santis is hyper-focused and organized and relentlessly on-message. Trump could learn from him.
