Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul warned ‘corrupt’ Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg that he could be forced out of office and face arrest after new evidence surfaced in former president Donald Trump’s case.
“Wonder if DA Bragg remembers Durham DA Mike Nifong, who withheld exculpatory DNA tests on the Duke lacrosse players,” Paul said.
“He was subsequently forced out of office, disbarred, and convicted of contempt of court,” the Republican Senator added, referring to Nifong, the district attorney in the 2006 case accusing Duke University lacrosse players of rape before they were exonerated and escaped jail.
In a separate statement just before the news of Trump’s indictment, Rand Paul said, “A Trump indictment would be a disgusting abuse of power,” adding Bragg should face arrest and be “put in jail.”
Meanwhile, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Congress would take action against Bragg after Trump appeared in Manhattan on Tuesday.
A Manhattan grand jury indicted Trump for his alleged role in money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
The former president pleaded not guilty to the 34 charges.
McCarthy vowed to hold Bragg accountable.
“Alvin Bragg is attempting to interfere in our democratic process by invoking federal law to bring politicized charges against President Trump, admittedly using federal funds, while at the same time arguing that the peoples’ representatives in Congress lack jurisdiction to investigate this farce. Not so. Bragg’s weaponization of the federal justice process will be held accountable by Congress,” McCarthy tweeted.
Last month, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Bragg could be indicted for improperly pursuing an investigation against Trump.
“Now it’s time to arrest Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg for prosecutorial misconduct after hiding hundreds of pages of exculpatory evidence!” she wrote.
“Bragg is on the verge of indicting an innocent former President and top Presidential candidate against the opposing ruling party. Bragg is breaking the law and trying to incite civil unrest with his Soros-funded political war. Hold him accountable!” Greene added.
Meanwhile, Trump opponents like former National Security Adviser John Bolton voiced concern that Trump’s indictment could propel him to the White House.
“I’m not worried about Alvin Bragg hurting Donald Trump,” Bolton told CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday following news of the indictment.
“I’m worried about Alvin Bragg benefiting Donald Trump,” he admitted.
I really do like Rand Paul.
Well, we're waiting.
Blah blah blah. All talk and unlike President Trump no walk...
Explosive evidence?
Could Bragg be Nifong’s little prison piggie?
Many..including Brandon..should be tried and jailed.
Gitmo but only without all the thrills and frills.
If being China’s B*TCH isn’t enough to get the current POTUS thrown in GITMO, nothing is.
Bump!
What is the ‘Explosive new evidence”?
Yes, what explosive evidence? What exactly?
bragg must leave office. Don’t feel sorry for him. democrats always reward their own kind with soft, cushy, no-work jobs and piles of cash.
He allegedly withheld exculpatory evidence............
“Could Bragg be Nifong’s little prison piggie?”
Bragg would be a perfect prison wife. He wouldn’t even need to have t*ts tattooed on his back.😂
Haha - we need the “well l...we’re waiting”.gif.
“’I’m worried about Alvin Bragg benefiting Donald Trump,’ he (Bolton) admitted.”
IOW, Bolton isn’t concerned at all about prosecutorial misconduct, rule of law, etc. His TDS is driving him 100%
Oh well,I'm not a lawyer...and I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
Well, I’d love to see proof, not just allegations that are baseless without it.
You are correct.
He intentionally withheld exculpatory evidence from the Grand Jury in order to clinch his indictment.
That evidence must now be brought out in the open for everyone to see......................
Nifong made a similar mistake........................................
