Today, March 29, the House voted 71-46 to override Governor Cooper’s veto of Senate Bill 41, a bill that recognizes law-abiding citizens’ right to self-defense while attending a church with a school attached and also repeals the redundant permit-to-purchase system.
NRA thanks the Senate leadership of Senator Danny Britt, Senator Warren Daniel, Senator Jim Perry, Senator Phil Berger, and others for fighting to protect the rights of North Carolina’s law-abiding citizens. Also, on the House side, NRA thanks Speaker Tim Moore, Representative Destin Hall, and others for their tireless efforts to advance Second Amendment freedom in the Tar Heel State.
Further, NRA thanks the lawmakers who voted for the veto override and the North Carolina Rifle and Pistol Association for their leadership in ensuring the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens are protected throughout North Carolina.
Gov. Cooper’s veto has shown law-abiding gun owners another reason why they must always be ready to vote to elect officials who will work to protect their rights. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates.
Someone ping the banglisters please?
When no one is allowed to have guns, only the murderers will have guns.
I posted this a few minutes agon on another NC related thread:
The “permission slip” from the county shefiff is a holdover thing from the DemoKKKrat reconstruction, Jim Crow era to ensure that minorities were unarmed and unable to defend themselves from the terrorism arm of the DemoKKKrat Party, aka the KKK.
I wonder if recent events helped the passage.
Any republicans side with the GOV?
Cooper is an idiot and is serving a 2nd term I believe.
Since we have open carry in NC, this means anyone can purchase and carry in public so long as it is not concealed.
Which is OK as long as they study and understand the self defense laws, which in NC can entrap and jail the unwary.
Did the NRA actually help or did they simply find a parade to march in front of?
my church and school were heavily involved in this. glad they finally are forcing it thru
a blind squirrel finds a nut
I am not sure that he is stupid. What I am sure of is that he is as bad as Newsom, a snake but like most snakes is careful to keep a low profile until something really important to the liberal dims like this legislation makes it necessary to emerge from his rock and strike.
This is a nice win.
I know right?
They will provide some cover for some Democrats that stood with us. Without those Dimms no override. They also have a much better communication system and they are the ones who got word out to most of the state. So... yeah they helped.
The individual members of NCRPA are also members many of them of NRA. Whereas GOA you know will defy the NRA and go forward with lawsuits and stuff, I do not believe that NCRPA would do that in the same way. (Please correct me anyone.) Since Heller I don’t think LaPierre intimidates anyone outside of NRA/ILA anymore. The Fudds are still there at NRA but with Heller and Bruen they are keeping out of the way.
It does no harm to join the NRA, but your state organization’s activism is vital and I am going to send something to NCRPA today!
Perfect timing.
Thank you, NC legislators.
Any Pubbies side with Dimms?
No, and plenty of Dimms came over to help with this.
Please correct me anyone.
I missed it. I searched first but oh well.
Excellent! Stuffed it right down Roy Cooper’s throat.
They need to do that with a bunch more things. Just keep shoving ‘em down Cooper’s throat over and over and over again.
The churches that have a Christian School in connection were looked on as “educational property” by the lawmen and there was already a prosecution of a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church (so I heard TIFWIW) in Walkertown for simply having a pistol in the church parking lot on Sunday! The gen assembly here now with this override allows those churches to allow concealed carry as other churches around the state have since the last revision of the CHL law. Liberal Methodist Churches and Unitarian Universalists will still post their property against weapons.
