With all the grooming going on these days, you can’t blame the parents for being suspicious. Who knows, maybe the next thing the teacher does is send her son a naked picture of herself.

“One parent, she was so upset, she was the one ...”

ONE is all it takes nowadays.

Pornography is in the eye of the beholder. Michelangelo’s ‘DAVID’ is not it.......................

There is way more to this story than what’s here. This David statue thing is just a distraction.

This “school” has had multiple admin changes in the last few years. That’s the first hint.

The principal wasn’t some woke person either - she supports charter schools, school choice etc. This is NOT the agenda that the left in Tallahassee want to see propagated.

There’s a good analogy/metaphor for people getting rid of personal, often debilitating inner mental problems (resentments, behaviors, etc...) that keep them from having a happier life: >>>Michelangelo was asked “how did you create David?” He said “I didn’t create David! All I did was chip away everything that wasn’t David and there he was!”. ...always liked that one.

Very wise comment. Must be more to it and maybe parents should have the choice. I took my kids to Florence to see the original. They were high school aged and artists.

Around where I was raised, most boys knew how boys and girls look look naked from changing the diapers of their younger brothers and sisters while they took care of them while the parents were working making a living. They also learned how to cook a meal so that when mama and daddy came in all they had to do was sit down and eat.

I was absolutely astonished when I first saw the original. The beauty leaves one speechless.

There are either some really stupid parents in Florida or they complained with the intent to make national news and embarrass Florida.

“According to a rule passed in February, the school’s teachers are required to give parents a two-week, and one-week advanced notice of specific pictures, words and topics that would be discussed in a class. The school says this allows parents to decide whether to let their children participate or be given an alternative assignment. Carrasquilla said a letter should have been sent out, but also told WCTV she believed only three parents complained.”

The article emphasizes that multiple issue led to her forced resignation. The section quoted above makes it obvious that she violated a policy and thus a promise to parents. Had the parents who think their children are too immature to understand the difference in porn and art been notified, they could have exempted their kids from the lesson. Sounds like she was not fired because of the artwork itself, but for violating the notification policy.

Back in the day, scandalized Germans thought so about the Vatican’s art and became Protestants.

“This gives liberals a huge example of the mouth breathing right wing red neck stereotype.”

Yep. Sadly we have more than our share of them.

And then next thing you know, they're marching into Poland.

“I’m sure there was more to this story.”

Historians have speculated for years that Michelangelo might have been gay. Perhaps the teacher was fired for using a lesson on Michelangelo’s David as an opportunity to teach 6th graders about the of the LBGQT+ lifestyle.

"I guess. Just keep them out of Italy. Lol."

At least Florence...which I consider to be the Center of Civilization.

It’s school that emphasizes the classics. The Renaissance would be considered Greek or Roman Revival and David is a prime example of Renaissance art. However, at this age, the sculpture of David is inappropriate. Michelangelo produced many important works, like the Pieta, that would be appropriate to teach at that grade level.

“why is any time or money wasted on art lessons? It is all subjective ...”

Because art can be incredibly beautiful?

There are at least three statues of David in Florence, if my memory holds. One outside the Palazzo Vecchio, one up on a hill across the river and, of course, the original in the museum (as beautiful as you describe). There’s more art in that city than you can shake a paintbrush at...

I think the original statue by Michelangelo used to be outdoors where anyone could see it, before it was moved inside the museum.

In ancient Athens there were statues called herms which usually had phalluses...out in public for anyone to see them. On the island of Delos there were gigantic statues of phalluses (now damaged). But of course the ancient Greeks were not like us.
