COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — As Ohio’s primary approaches, a strict new photo ID requirement is stirring concerns for military veterans and out-of-state college students, in Amish communities and among older voters.
Other Republican-led states are moving in the same direction as they respond to conservative voters unsettled by unfounded claims of widespread fraud and persistent conspiracy theories over the accuracy of U.S. elections. Critics characterize such requirements as an overreaction that could end up disenfranchising eligible voters.
Ruth Kohake is among those caught up in the confusion over Ohio’s law, which is going into effect this year. The retired nurse from Cincinnati gave up her driver’s license and her car in 2019. Now 82, she thought she might never have to step foot in another state license agency.
But Ohio now requires an unexpired photo ID in order for someone to vote, and she’ll have to get that at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The law adds passports as valid ID, but eliminates nonphoto documentation such as a bank statement, government check or utility bill for registration and in-person voting. Military IDs also are no longer acceptable when registering to vote.
Of 35 states that request or require a photo ID to vote, Ohio is now the ninth Republican-controlled state to move to a strict law allowing few to no alternatives, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Fifteen states allow other ways voters can verify their identify, such as an electric bill, bank statement or signature match.
The number of states where voters face strict photo ID requirements is poised to rise in the coming months.

If the effects are “unclear” to Hoax Newsers, then they are working.
Over 80% of Americans support voter ID laws so its hardly a “republican” thing.
Blacks are more likely to support ID laws than Whites according to polling too.
I don’t put much stock into polling but its been fairly consistent over the years.
In Third World cesspools you get purple ink on your finger after you’ve voted to prevent you from voting again. Here you’re not even required to reach into your pocket/purse to show a card that *every* adult in the country has...even poor black folks (for food stamps, free housing, free medical care, etc.)
Crappola. It’s “stirring concerns” among the demholes as does any measure that makes it harder to cheat.

Good news. Trump keeps the election issue in front of us and we are responding. Keep it up.
Terribly written opinion piece. Back when there actually was a professional reporter writing articles, this chump would have found this garbage in the round file placed there by an EDITOR.
State media is concerned about the Amish! Haha
These election integrity laws discriminate against cheaters.
Ridiculous.
Every time this comes up, there are groups of people that seem incapable of getting an ID. These people knew how to get them in the past…
There is not one Veteran that “comes home” without a way to obtain a state ID.
There’s not one elderly person that does not have the capacity to obtain an ID (and if he or she does, then perhaps that person is incapable of making a rational decision).
Even (I swear!) the poor black people know how to get a drivers license or ID. The Democrats insist that so many of our citizens are too stupid to obtain ID, yet insist that they vote.
Too little, too late. 30% of voting is in person at polls now. How will this fix mail vote fraud?
Pennsylvania had an ID law in place, but the commies filed suit over “disenfranchisement” and the courts shot it down.
The gaslighting continues.
I encourage all here to venture into enemy territory with open ears and just listen to the conversation. If you're clever, initiate the conversation.
It's truly enlightening to hear how gullible these people are and the seriousness of the effects of this type of propaganda.
No kidding!
The quality of writing in so many of the articles posted here has really deteriorated!
We need to require:
- Voting in person for all but that small handful (eg military) who must vote absentee
- government issued photo ID
- voting on election day. Not week. Not season. DAY. Like we did for 200 years.
- a meaningful right to observe and contest the vote count for all political parties. “meaningful” means they need to be close enough to clearly read each ballot. No ballots may be counted without election observers present. Any ballots that are are immediately disqualified.
- vote on paper ballots only (no machines)
- All challenged ballots to be decided by bipartisan committees in each precinct.
- each precinct must report how many ballots it received each day.
- no ballots received after election day may count. If you’re afraid your ballot won’t count, get it in the mail early enough to ensure it arrives by election day.
These ARE the rules in practically every European country, Canada, Mexico, India, Australia, etc. They all have no problem running clean elections and they know the results that night.
GA makes it easy to get a free photo ID: https://sos.ga.gov/page/georgia-voter-identification-requirements
ap will throw a hissing fit it elections are to be fair and honest
Democrats don’t want photo ID requirement they spent to much time and money getting 7 million people from 170 countries to be on the voter list.
Federal judge F.U. Peoples agrees allows them to vote.
Whatever lax measures have come along in voting have made it something other than voting.
People priding themselves on putting something over on others in the “process” have broken social bonds.
BUT——THEY do NOT use MAIL IN BALLOTS, either.
THEY show up IN PERSON.
I saw a video on YouTube where a guy went out on the street in NYC, and asked random black people if they had ID. (They all did), and asked them if they knew where the DMV was (They all did), and what they thought about the statement that black people didn’t have, and couldn’t get an ID. They all agreed that it was a racist thing to claim.
So, we move on to the Amish now I guess.
