They just remodeled the one close to me in TN.

Made it more spacious, which makes me think they have reduced stock.

The one near me reduced their hours from 24/7 to 8 AM to 10 PM.

They know nothing good happens after midnight.

What typically happens when a Walmart comes to town is they run all the mom-n-pop businesses out of business. At first, the new Walmart selection is unrivaled and the small operators can't compete on price or selection. Once Walmart eliminates their competition you'll see mostly store brands (many coming from China) and otherwise empty shelves. What used to be small town downtown turns into an empty shell. I've seen this scenario repeated over and over all over the country in my travels in the last 30 odd years. By contrast, go into a small town that doesn't have a Walmart and you usually find a thriving downtown packed with local businesses.

That could be due to the store manager. It’s their option.

I saw a small Walmart that stopped placing stock in the wider entrance aisles. It looked much more spacious.

Ok, looking at the Wisconsin and Illinois Walmarts closing. I would say that the Wisconsin closing is in a middle class neighborhood that is only two blocks from a major mall. Its likely that the sight is on land that is far more valuable for other uses. Its a super store that is land locked by single family homes. And of course the Milwaukee regulations that make it far more expensive to run than stores just outside the city. Wisconsin is growing and the state is fairly well run thanks to rules Walker put in a decade ago.

Illinois does have three stores in black neighborhoods. And I am guessing that closing stores in Illinois, and especially Chicago and its close in black suburbs is a reality for any store. Illinois is about to implode. So, leaving now is probably a good thing. The population is shrinking. The regulations are harsh. Crime is rampant. And the taxes are out of this world.
