"Walmart has been the world's largest company by revenue since 2014."

Whatever do these stores have in common that Walmart, one of the most profitable companies on the planet, is going to shutter them?

Maybe this map will help:

They just remodeled the one close to me in TN.

Made it more spacious, which makes me think they have reduced stock.

The one near me reduced their hours from 24/7 to 8 AM to 10 PM.

They know nothing good happens after midnight.

The thing is, Leftists WANT Walmarts to close, wherever possible, since they often fought tooth-and-nail back when Walmart was opening new stores, especially in the cities. They simply DESPISE the idea of their voters having the freedom to shop where they please.

...so expect more openings.

I remember when the Walmart family asked Ford how much they wanted for GT40 chassis 1075 parked in their museum.
They made Ford an offer they couldn’t refuse.

My first thought is they should concentrate more on their business before they go the way of JC Pennys.

Curious about the closure in Bentonville, Arkansas. That’s a nice area and isn’t the Walmart headquarters there too?

Yep.

Then local pols will complain bitterly that their areas are a “food desert” (or is it “food dessert?”) and demand the government DO SOMETHING - like increase EBT benefits.

I’m starting to wonder if they’re losing business because people like me supporting smaller businesses? All of the smaller “mom and pop” places I frequent have been far more crowded than just a few years ago.

Also contributing factor is increase in self-checkouts. At the Walmart I shop, they increased self-checkout stations four fold, and got rid of checkout clerks.

Bonanza for dishonest customers.

I remember when the city of Inglewood in SoCal - (black area) defeated a Walmart - the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton flew in to help defeat it (at the behest of local unions, etc.). The area was already a “food desert” - and for good reason.

That store would have created 1,000 jobs along with peripheral businesses, which were already in the process of being contracted, there was LOTS of interest.

Walmart also upgraded a local park with plans for more as a condition of moving into the area.

Walmart was defeated - the next day I heard the mayor on Larry Elder’s show - he was so angry he could hardly speak. Said it will remain a great inconvenience for residence to shop for food, all the grocery stores had closed after the Rodney King riots.

My guess is it the store HAD been built, it would now be on that map of store closures. It’s legal (misdemeanor but security and cops won’t go after them), after all, in California, to steal up to $950 a day in merchandise from retail businesses.

Last year they closed the only Walmart in the City of Pittsburgh, ostensibly because of “low profitability” but the word on the street was excessive shoplifting.
