That area doesn’t have that many of them.

But it is predominantly low income so..

You could say that about the Saint cloud mn Walmart.

The one in Albuquerque was a pit.

Homeless in the parking lot and wandering the aisles. Lots of obvious shoplifting. They had security, but it didn’t seem to be doing any good.

The store had to be losing money.

I’ve been to the one you spoke of with my ex-gf. Awful, like so much of Albuquerque overwhelmed with the addicts.

Yep, is the reason that as recently as five years ago - there was no Uber in most of coastal Maine. Local taxi monopolies had an agreement with eachother and would blackball anyone who applied to work with Uber.

Prior to Wal Mart many rural folks did their major shopping via Sears or Monkey Wards catalogs. Local retailers tended to have less selection and charge very high prices.

I frequently shop at Walmart. They always check my receipt for purchases before I leave. They try harder than any other store I know to control shoplifting. So I’m inclined to think that general economic performance is a more important factor in their store-closing decisions.

I’ve never had anything checked when leaving EXCEPT when I bought ammo years ago.

May your Walmart be as you are visualizing and preventing shoplifting

The other thing some stores have is monitors that show the customers in cosmetic aisles.

I was at a Walmart store that I hadn't been to in about five months. As I was walking to the lawn and garden center something struck me as odd: The entire pharmacy and cosmetics area was completely blocked off except for one access down by the lawn and garden area, which was furthest from the main exit/entrances. There was a permanent cashier at that location so anybody needing over-the-counter meds or cosmetics had to pay there.

Walmarts, Meijers, and other big box stores brought choices and lower prices to small towns.

I think it is most likely modernization that replaced small town stores. Just as online retailers are hurting and replacing Walmarts and big box stores who have been forced into selling online to rival Amazon style stores.

Life does change and Americans like having variety.

The Wal-Mart closest to my house on Navy Boulevard in Pensacola also has those one-way gates, as well as numerous video monitors in the aisles showing my pretty face as I walk under them. My neighbor calls it one of those “ghetto Wal-Marts.”

I’ve gone there many times; I use the pharmacy and buy food and other goods there. The various people, Black and White, have been decent. But it’s apparently still a “ghetto Wal-Mart.”

The one in Florida shows on the map as a “Concept” store.

Any idea on how a “Concept” store is defined?

The most interesting fact presented by that graphic is that apparently a Walmart in Sam Walton’s home town of Bentonville is being closed.

WM 30 miles.
Excellent local grocery at 4 miles.

Amazon can stuff it.
