Second, the old Roman Empire was not brought down by "moral decay," that's just silly.
Rather, it declined and rose again over many centuries, finally being destroyed forever by superior military technology of the Ottoman Turks in 1453 AD -- oh? Had you forgotten about that?
The Eastern Roman Empire (capital Constantinople) was instrumental in destroying the Western Roman Empire (capital Rome) when it paid off invading barbarians to attack the west and leave Constantinople alone.
The Western Roman Empire fell in circa 476 AD not because of "moral decay" but rather because they could no longer afford to pay the Roman legions who had defended Rome for over 1,000 years.
With the legions dissolved, barbarians literally just walked in and took over.

So, what has caused the debt and inflation to soar out of sight is not $billions for national defense, much less "endless wars", but rather untold $trillions borrowed to pay for Democrat vote-buying social schemes.
