National Security Council (NSC) Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters in White House briefings on Monday and Tuesday that China could play a “constructive role” in the Russian invasion of Ukraine by reaching out to the latter nation’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and “press[ing] Russia to pull its troops out of Ukraine.”
Kirby emphasized that if Zelensky “can get behind” a path to peace, even one promoted by China, “he’ll find no better friend in that effort than the United States.”
The Chinese Communist Party began mounting a full-scale publicity effort in February to insert itself in the Ukraine invasion. Beijing is one of Russia’s closest allies but maintains friendly relations with Ukraine, as well. Ukraine is a member of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), an infrastructure plan in which China ensnares impoverished countries with predatory loans used to pay China to build roads, ports, and railways China later seizes when the countries default on their debts. Zelensky has repeatedly made public appeals to hold a conversation with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping, to no avail, and for China to encourage Russia to end its invasion.

I thought he said that “We, would not allow Ukraine to broker a deal with Russia for peace thru the Chinese.”
The US is not interested in a negotiated end to the war and has made it clear they want Putin gone which is a completely unrealistic goal in this dirty war.
The US/NATO has made it clear they won’t accept a Ukrainian/Russian ceasefire and end to the war even though the Ukraine should have the ultimate say in this whole process.
As for the chicoms they are making us look like bloodthirsty warmongering fools while they are peacemakers. The warcons/neocons and rest of the warmongers have only their beloved CNC BiteMe to blame for being out maneuvered and have the US’s options become more and more limited.
Precisely. It’s all just games. And, we get to look all peacey-dovey — knowing full well any talk between Xi and Z will come to nothing, as Zelensky will not accept anything less than total surrender by Russia, return to pre-2014 border, Ukraine in NATO, Russia pays reparations, etc. Which is of course unacceptable to Russia.
The US cannot broker a peace deal. Biden stated at the start that our aim in this war is regime change in Russia, etc., and branded Putin a war criminal. We don’t negotiate with those we designate as war criminals. The ICC indictment underlined this stance. See my post here:

xi is the big dog in this relationship, not pootz. This would be more like begging Hitler to bring Il Duce to the negotiating table. china will do whatever it wants for its own interest. russia is just an afterthought. And even though russia is the aggressor, it isn't even Italy. Hell, it's barely Mexico.
Biden has managed to bring America’s enemies together. Russia, China, Iran, and they will pull Saudi Arabia into their orbit too. Not good.
