President Donald Trump took his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to a new level Wednesday, as a super PAC linked to the 76-year-old accused his would-be rival of ethics violations tied to what it calls DeSantis’ “shadow presidential campaign.”
A draft of the 15-page letter by Make America Great Again Inc. calls on the Florida Commission on Ethics to investigate DeSantis, alleging that the 44-year-old has violated a slew of state statutes as well as federal campaign finance laws.
The complaint refers to DeSantis as a “de facto candidate for president” and claims that the governor is “leveraging his elected office and breaching his associated duties in a coordinated effort to develop his national profile, enrich himself and his political allies, and influence the national electorate.”
“Governor DeSantis’ failure to declare his candidacy is no mere oversight,” the complaint alleged. “[I]t is a coordinated effort to specifically designed for him to accept, as unethical gifts, illegal campaign contributions and certain personal benefits that are necessarily intended to influence his official decision to resign from office under Florida’s resign to run law.
“Governor DeSantis’ ham-handed maneuverings,” the complaint added, “have rendered him irreparably conflicted and have left the statehouse vacant.”
The letter includes as evidence that DeSantis has “abused his office and abdicated his official duties in favor of pursuing his national political interests” the fact that the governor has “met with influential figures in early primary states,” “is vetting operatives in early primary states,” and “met with individuals who are likely to play key roles in his presidential campaign.”
The letter asks that the commission impose one or more penalties including impeachment, removal from office, public censure, ballot disqualification and fines.

Trump, with all his flaws, is proven swamp free.
DeSantis, not clear. And DeSantis is holding his opinions about certain things close to his chest (a little politician like). I like what he says, but many swamp creatures have said things then done different. Its a known verses unknown for me, and in those toss ups, I tend to go with the known.
These “Trump dissed DeSantis/DeSantis dissed Trump’ threads are rabbit holes.
I have faith we will rally behind either man when the time comes.
Besides being some political posturing, why should that matter?
DeSantis is not an state employee he is a state official. The statute does make a distinction. If you read further on 110.233 (5) reads, “No state employee or official shall use any promise of reward or threat of loss to encourage or coerce any employee to support or contribute to any political issue, candidate, or party.” This shows that the previous subsection (4)(a) is not applicable to state officials else they would be included in that subsection.
I hate the thought of losing DeSantis and kind of hope he reserves running for president till 2028.
Trump has made it clear he’s going to rule or ruin. If he can’t be the nominee, he’ll pull the while party down.
I believe he did:
From 2021: Gov. Ron DeSantis says he won’t run for president because he’s busy ‘trying to make sure people are not supporting critical race theory’

“But it is not the left stirring up trouble., when Trump himself is making these critical statements about DeSantis.”
***
Yes, listening to Trump is so tedious and annoying that I’ve disengaged from him.
I’ll be watching MARCH MADNESS the rest of the month while Trump continues to make a fool of himself.
Those of you who continue to be obsequious to Trump will be heartbroken.
Is that a correct read?
I have to go back and look at that law again.
DeSantis' surrogates have been attacking Trump.
It all began back in the fall when Colorado Senate candidate and Bush-RINO, Joe O'Dea went on CNN and trashed Trump. Two days later DeSantis endorsed O'Dea.
And since then, Paul Ryan, Karl Rove and Jeb have been praising DeSantis and trashing Trump.
DeSantis' passive aggressiveness has alienated people.
Because he’s not a nut case. Trump has lost the plot.
The Bush,McCain, Romney party ?
Pulled down?
That’d be great!
That’s like draining the swamp from the R side..
It doesn’t get any simpler than that.
Trump’s Right again
He needs to convince the Florida legislature to allow him to run for president and state governor first. He hasn’t done that to.
It was designed so that if someone were to run for the presidency, he’d have to resign from the governorship, and DeSantis’s people seem to read it that way. But “nominee” is not a public office; DeSantis won’t have to resign until he wins and accepts the nomination.
“Tgat is a passive aggressive slimycampaign”
You can call it what you want, but here are a few things I haven’t seen DeSantis do:
* He hasn’t announced his candidacy
* He hasn’t filed any of the required paperwork to even start an exploratory committee
* He hasn’t solicited donations for his campaign
* He hasn’t run any campaign ads
* He hasn’t held any campaign rallies
* He hasn’t made a single public appearance where he’s ever said “I’m Ron DeSantis and I’d like your vote for President in 2024”
So, by the normal standards that apply to all politicians in this country, he’s not actually running a campaign for office. He certainly seems to be preparing to, and laying the groundwork to do so, but he is not in fact a candidate for anything at this point.
Perhaps you read the law differently but it does not have to be a public office. Once he declares or officially files for the Primary, he has to resign if the law is not changed by that time.
There are FAR too many idiots on FR these days. The idiots do not read anything, know nothing, and when someone says there is a law they don’t know how to go look for themselves. It is why I just don’t post here much at all anymore. Idiocracy is a documentary anymore.
Here the law, and IT DOES NOT SAY DENSANTIS MUST RESIGN RIGHT NOW! It says he must tell the people he will resign as governor if elected as President. Well, no shit, Sherlock. Of course he would have to.

>> It all began back in the fall when Colorado Senate candidate and Bush-RINO, Joe O’Dea went on CNN and trashed Trump. Two days later DeSantis endorsed O’Dea. <<
What you mean is that it began when Trump attacked the Republican nominee, that nominee responded in kind, and DeSantis endorsed the Republican. Trump chumps tried to claim that DeSantis ONLY endorsed O’Dea to make it look like he endorsed O’Dea only because he attacked Trump, but that was a stupid lie: DeSantis endorsed every Republican nominee to the right of O’Dea.
think it would be wise for him to honor his earlier statements that he would not contest Trump and just serve out his governor term until 2028. The fact that he is teasing a campaign lowers him in my eyes.
I agree, as a resident of Florida.
I used to really approve of RD but now I’m not liking his actions at all. I think many Floridians think the same way.
Sure, I suppose, if he wants to run, and if he doesn’t want to resign the governorship first. We’ll see.
