Ukraine’s leader believes seizing the historic Kiev Pechersk Lavra will strengthen “spiritual independence”
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has endorsed the order to expel monks of the canonical Orthodox church from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, insinuating they were agents of Russia. Moscow has called on all Christian churches, as well as the UN and other international organizations, to respond to the “outrageous” decision.

It's more Pagan than Christian!
My wife who is a Russian speaking Orthodox Christian had to escape from Odessa with our then almost 2 year old son on the third day of Putin's war. The Russian Orthodox church is run by KGB/FSB officers. All priests who are in that church should be permanently expelled from Ukraine.

Shows the contrast between the ancient orthodoxy, and the new schismatic church being promoted by Ukrainian nationalists

I think you can get an idea of the control Zelensky ( Zelensky!) is trying to exert over the spiritual lives and worship choices of the inhabitants of Ukraine
Oh, okay Uncle Adolf.
Why do you talk about this subject if you don’t know about it?

“The Azov battalion - and I’m not even sure they use that name anymore - must be delighted at how you think they run everything in Ukraine.”
Don’t worry, we get it, just a bunch of high school kids. Kind of like having to keep the crazy aunt locked up in the attic...”nothing to see, look over there, IT’S PUTIN!!!”
Save Thy people, O Lord,
and bless Thine inheritance.
Grant victory to Thy Church over her enemies,
and protect Thy people by Thy Holy Cross!
I struggle over how so many Orthodox jurisdictions--including my own--are promoting "stand with Ukraine".
Pray for me, the sinner.
You are a person who is very, very sure about things that are not true at all.
You have convinced yourself completely, and now you confidently try to teach others.
The nice thing about Wiki (almost all the time) is that it lists its citations, and you are able to follow up on any source. Which is the proper way to dispute information on Wiki.
What I was hoping for is an argument as to why it is not “canonical”. Or for that matter why it is “false”. So, stand and deliver.
It seems to be recognized by all the big authorities in the Orthodox world. The exceptions seem to be those churches in countries/entities with political entanglements with Russia.
That is a big weakness of Orthodox churches in general, in that they tend to be state/political churches. An ancient Catholic criticism btw.
In re Mount Athos particularly, the Greek Church seems to be fine with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine - the Kiev Church.
Here in 2014, a village votes to join the Schismatic Ukrainian Church under the Constantinople patriarchy. Explains the issues.
However, does not seem to address the issue of the Kiev government now ham-handedly trying to eradicate the Russian orthodoxy and seize its sites, as a subversive enemy.
I’m not sure why you have raised this subject with me, I did not address you on this thread.
But you are lying, the ukrainian church issue was hugely controversial on mount athos, they had many special sessions to deal with the topic, disagreements among the monasteries, protests and so on.
Or burn them at the stake as heretics.
But they agreed to recognize it. Done.
The recognition of the new government Ukrainian church by the ecumenical patriarch is probably the greatest controversy on Mount Athos in the past 100 years.
You say “done”, but I can guarantee you the issue is not over for Mount Athos in particular or the Orthodox Church in general.
Let’s end the conversation there.
Long live Mother Russia. May they get Kiev back.
Soviet Union v.2.0. Nothing more, nothing less.
Good luck to the few salaried or unsalaried and misled Freepers making their bed with the likes of Code Pink, Moscow, Beijing, Pyongyang, Teheran and all totalitarian regimes in the Russian orbit or allied with Putin.
Correct.

Council of Crete.
The *canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, led by Metropolitan Onuphry, the primate of Kiev and all Ukraine did not ask for autocephaly. The schizmatics of the OCU did. If anyone should be Patriarch of Ukraine it is Onuphry.
Bartholomew acted unilaterally to grant the “tomos” in 2019, which was contrary to agreed upon procedure in 2016 at the council.
The schizmatics, who were supported by Poroshenko actually placed a phone call to Mike Pompeo at state (meddling again) thanking him for his help. (Start there.)
Bartholomew acted unilaterally granting autocephaly to Ukraine and Dumenko’s schism, ignoring the true primate of Ukraine, which was Met. Onuphry of the canonical and true UOC.
You can believe whatever you want. I don’t care. But don’t rely on Wikipedia for the truth.
The truth is this is a tragedy for the Orthodox Ukrainians and is spilling over into Eastern Orthodoxy itself. (see Greeks) It did not need to happen and has caused division, which the Orthodox world is trying to correct NOW.
Do not try to tell me what is proper because you don’t know. And I know you don’t.
