Kids in New York schools could be doing even worse on state exams than we thought – because educrats are cloaking failure with misleading stats.
An analysis by The Post of the 2022 statewide test results in English and math found that the state fudged its overall results by ignoring the nearly 20% of kids who went untested — most because they refused to take the exams altogether.
So while the state Education Department claimed in October that New York state students in grades 3-8 achieved a 47% proficiency rate in English Language Arts in 2022, only 38% of kids actually demonstrated proficiency on the standardized tests.

But the teachers were “kept safe” from the CCP-cooties.

I guess this means that only 10% of NY State high school graduates can read their diplomas...rather than 13%.
“NY State test scores worse than they seem, analysis finds”
I guess that I don’t understand the problem - public schools are FREE, so you’re getting what you pay for. Not too confusing to me and, no doubt, FReepers at least know to stay clear of them. Really no different than public housing, which I’m sure that FReepers also stay away from.
The dumbing down of our kids in forced government schools goes on unabated.
Some parts of the problem of low proficiency are identified in the last paragraph of the article: teachers’s unions, Common Core, parents, and high-stakes. Groomer teachers and administrators are missing.
I’m sitting here thinking everything is broken, but I’ll focus on one problem, high-stakes. Exactly what type of expectations exist when a proficiency exam is high-stakes? I can only surmise a whole lot of people have extremely low expectations. Expectations are relative and they can drastically change attitudes. I would expect my children to score in the top percentile of the exam without any preparation because they were expected to excel everyday. The exam is merely a diversion from the regular school day. It’s a ‘check-in’. The everyday expectation is mastery of the day’s lessons. After awhile mastery becomes routine and in the range of low to high expectations, it is the normal expectation. That leaves room for higher expectations in other things.
Statistics don’t lie, but liars use statistics.
My dad took statistics in college.
He always said there are three kinds of lies
Lies
Damn Lies
and Statistics
The “public” nature of the schools isn’t the problem.
The New York City Public Schools used to be the greatest public school system the world has ever seen. It was the product of a well-educated elite dedicated to high standards, working in partnership with a community of intact and morally strong working-class families that valued education.
All of that has been destroyed. There is no fixing this, outside of martial law.
Any government organization run by Demonicrats has been weaponized into producing lies, murder, and treason.
What’s with the “refuse to take the exams”? They get a -0- and that’s what is written down as their score.
That’s because the kids run the asylum. Teachers no longer have support from administrators or parents. It used to be if a teacher called the parents, the kid was in trouble. Now it’s the teacher at fault that the kid acted out. Upside down world.
Keep paying for failure, suckers.
I took statistics in college….twice! Get my drift? Lol. I had the same professor the second time. Gave me a C- so he wouldn’t see me a third. Florida state doesn’t count D’s at least in the late 1980’s. So off to take it again. Only class I repeated in my entire school history. I still don’t know it.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Make no mistake, the Department of Education is designed to spread disinformation. They want students ignorant. The System depends on it.
They need us stupid and dependent.
Missing were the statistics by location.
What were the statistics from the Black enclaves of New York City
So school administrators get evaluated on how well students do on the tests. But students can refuse the tests. If I’m an administrator I will do my best to be sure the lowest performing students “refuse” to take the tests.
What a joke.
