In a speech Saturday night, former vice president Mike Pence delivered what amounted to his strongest rebuke of Donald Trump, criticizing the former president for his role in the lead-up to the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol as well as attempts to rewrite the history of that day.
“President Trump was wrong,” Pence said. “I had no right to overturn the election. And his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day. And I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”
The former vice president was speaking at the Gridiron dinner, a white-tie event thrown by journalists in Washington, D.C. that this year featured speeches by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy in addition to Pence. The annual event tends to be a lighthearted affair, with skits and parody songs performed by members of the Washington press corps.

Pence was tested: He should have tossed the certifications of the states where fraud took place, thus sending the issue back to the states' legislatures.
He, like the Electors just ahead of him in the election process, failed (some should have gone rogue, as is their Constitutional duty).
As Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel, Pence was weighed in the balance and found wanting, as were the Electors.
The fix is to elect VPs and Electors who are knowledgeable about the Constitution (to be determined by a panel of bright seventh graders who understand the Constitution better than corrupt Supremes do). And, who are brave enough to do what is right.
Rules assigning Electors according to popular vote totals should be ruled unconstitutional on the basis of their negating the very purpose of the Electoral College.
Note the Rats, Communists, Progressives, whatever you call them, always try to dissolve the checks on mob rule: The EC, Senators chosen by state legislatures, etc.
History will be kind to Trump as it has been with Reagan and even Nixon. I do not think History is done with Trump, the Lord has plans for him no one can see now.
And Obama...he always had his head tilted a bit back and looked down his nose when he was speaking. He thought he was better than everyone else, you could tell by his smirks. There are a lot of politicians that have that type of mannerisms. Just like AOC and he wide open “crazy” eyes. Ugh!
Pence has zero credibility except among the GOPe and their hatred of first, Reaganism, the Tea Party, and now Trumpism means they embrace anyone against those two great Presidents and the movements they led and inspired. More so for Pence the Phony, it’s obvious he was lying about General Flynn and used his then squeaky clean as a weapon against the general.
Remember......
I AM YOUR RETRIBUTION.
Good morning MM. I see you have some really strong feelings about Pence. I'm obviously in the minority on this topic here, because most with a differing opinion have either left, or been banned, and I'm just returning from a timeout myself. So out of my great respect for you, and desire to not be permanently zotted, I will avoid trying to provoke you in any way.
But I don't think Pence's lack of putting the country in an unprecedented constitutional crisis, by refusing to certify the electoral college vote as provided by the state legislature's chosen electors, was treason. His constitutional role was simply to count the votes as provided by the state legislatures, as he did. To not have counted those legally representative votes would have been in violation of the constitution, in my opinion.
Just try to imagine if Hillary Clinton had claimed her election was stolen, and Joe Biden was going to throw the electoral college into unprecedented chaos in the way that Trump was pressing Pence to interfere. Would you have not seen that action as controversial in its own right? Sometimes you have to view things through the reverse lens to truly measure them against history.
Excellent summation. Agree 100%.
Not necessarily on this thread, but there are some on FR, surprisingly.
I helped lead a group of Freepers to Tallahassee in 2000, to protest outside the Supreme Court there for several days in a row. We printed signs based on images created by Freeper Registered that ended up in the Florida Museum of History. So I have some good first hand experience in rallying over contested elections.
But I knew this was a very bad idea from the start. There was no chance of the vote outcome being changed, for starters. Pence had already made it clear he wasn't going to act in an unprecedented, unconstitutional manner, which meant the votes were going to elect Biden. So it was doomed to only be an expression of anger.
There was also the near certainty that some undercover agents would be there to stir things up. We had already seen the pictures of them there in the beta test rally held two weeks before.
A lot of Trump supporters weren't following those details closely enough though, and trusted Trump and his invitation to be safe. An invitation into disaster, that we are still paying for to this day.
I think he is narrowly focused on appealing to his fellow coupmeisters that all else is irrelevant. It’s like the brownshirts in the Nazi regime. Pence is just fawning all over them, begging for a pat on the head and a seat at the big kids table so he can gain some real power over the serfs. On the other hand, he could be pure evil and one of the plotters like I think Ryan was and be trying to skew public perception in the direction he wants, i.e. ant-Trump, Pro-Globalism.
What you said, ditto.
Pence said. “I had no right to overturn the election.
= = =
He was not able to overturn ‘the election’. It was not decided yet.
He cold have suspended the process till the correct vote count was available.
Pence seems to have not noticed the “narrative” regarding January 6 is eroding!
Pence gets whisper from DNC we hire Rinos Pence nods.
I agree that Pence belongs with the GOPe. No question. I didn’t like him before he was VP. I didn’t like him as VP. I don’t like him post VP. But he WAS VP. And that makes him different from all the other grudges that occurred during Trump’s term. The other positions will be forgotten in the dust of history. VP will appear in EVERY history of Trump’s presidency. And letting your temper loose on your historical partner is just not a good idea. Regardless of what a righteous prig he is.
Trump was not a DC figure nor was he a government creature. He took some bad advice from people he thought were trustworthy.
Your entitled to your opinion about how Pence acted about the vote count. Doesn’t excuse his words now. IMO, he’s now proven to be a deep state a$$ kisser.
He turned out to be a real dick, didn’t he…
What an asshole.
And Biden is a Pussy.
