New York City cops are resigning at a record-breaking pace this year as the NYPD’s alarming exodus continues, according to new data obtained by The Post.

“The NYPD staffing emergency is approaching the point of no return,” said Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch.

The shocking stats show 239 officers tapped out in January and February, a 36% spike from the 176 who fled in the same period last year and a disturbing 117% jump from the 110 in 2021, NYPD pension data show.

That’s the highest number of resignations for the first two months of a year since 250 members quit in 2007 during a contentious contract dispute,

“The NYPD needs to be rebuilt from the ground up — it’s unfixable in its current state,” a veteran Manhattan cop told The Post.

Who wants to be a cop in a city that has no interest in prosecuting the criminals and instead turns them loose to commit more crimes?

Since almost nothing is a crime worth prosecuting in New York any more, why would they need any Police??

Who wants to be a cop in the city where the prosecutors office views you as a criminal simply for being a cop and they all dream about prosecuting you for your interaction with a criminal.

FWIW - this statement is far more accurate

They have had officers shot sitting in their patrol car minding their own business, cop cars have been firebombed with cops in the vehicle, and it probably feels like half the citizens hate you because that is what they are told in the NY media and by NY politicians/activists (same thing)

If NYC were a stock I would be shorting it..... bigly

Even with a former cop as mayor he is still a vast leftist and the result is the same. With leftists, being a leftist is first, their job title a distant second.

Just about everyone I knew who was/is a cop, very much regretted it after several years.

I would expect every cop to retire at their first possible opportunity since they can't trust the brass nor the city politicians.

I would also expect any new cops to leave after their first tour for greener pastures.

Basically going according to plan: less Biblical character and integrity, among parents to children to government=less moral values=increased crime=less local enforcement and less just prosecution overall=more insecurity=more demand for security=more federal control=more prosecution of woke policies=less opposition=liberal dictatorship.

I'll say this, I have nothing but positive experiences with the NYPD since I started working there 10 years ago.

Too bad not many others appreciate them.

"Just about everyone I knew who was/is a cop, very much regretted it after several years."

People have differing experiences. I retired, as did scores of officers I worked with. I have never heard any of them say they regretted their career. I emphatically DO NOT regret my career.

I guess it would depend on where you’re working as a cop. No?

Not could be, but IS a factor.

Based on your statements, I’d guess you never worked for departments such as Chicago Police Department, LAPD, Oakland etc.

Cops are bailing out of many of these departments for real valid reasons.

Correct. I did not work for any of those agencies, and I understand the reasons why many officers are leaving them.

. The movement to defund police departments is not going away — it is simply being reworked by its biggest supporters for another push. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/house-democrats-and-the-biden-administration-prepare-to-revive-defund-the-police
