Today, I filed HB 3596, which is commonly known as the “Texas Independence Referendum Act," or TEXIT
If passed, it will place a referendum on the ballot during the next general election, allowing the people of Texas to vote on whether or not the State should investigate the possibility of Texas independence, and present potential plans to the Legislature.

On the day the Alamo fell.......................
There used to be a saying/admonition in Texas: Don’t Mess with Texas.
In retrospect, it didn’t seem to really mean much.
Just saying.
I wonder what would happen if States tried to leave the union today.
History tells us that President Lincoln compelled the southern states to stay in the Union, and used military force to do so.
There are constitutional provisions for states to enter the union, but there is no constitutional provision for states to leave the union.
That could mess up Juneteenth.
any state can leave the union, if they can prevent from being dragged back in...
buwahahahaha
texas won’t be able to, but if any state had a shot, i’d say it was texas.
I predict virtual “tons” of out of state money coming in to fight against this initiative.
Forget out of state money. There’s tons of out of state liberals coming in. Better do it soon.
“Don’t Mess With Texas” was an anti-littering ad campaign, back in the ‘80s, IIRC. It caught on, or maybe it was used because it was already popular. I don’t remember. We can now use it once again to reference taking out the TRASH (liberals).
Those who are not Texan will never get it. Just sayin’.
My son was recently attended an event with the powers that be of Texas government. They are planning to build an armory to manufacture ammunition for state use. Haven’t seen it mentioned in the news yet, but it will be.
"Texas Independence Referendum Act HB 3596 "TEXIT" filed by Texas Rep. Bryan Slaton HD2"
Texas Rep. Bryan Slatons should arguably lead ALL the states to effectively “secede” from the unconstitutionally big federal government by repealing the 16th (direct taxes) and 17th (popular voting for federal senators) Amendments(16&17A).
If the repeal amendment was limited strictly to repealing 16&17A, then arguably relatively little, or ideally no discussion would be needed before amending it to the Constitution.
I actually don’t think there would be an armed response to a state seceding.
People no longer really believe in the Union. Particularly people on the left who has spend the last hundred years attack the USA as an institution, I don’t think there’s much will to preserve it.
Bkmk
you are probably right, and the left would just as soon as see texans leave, but their energy policies would be too harmful to allow, and the feds would move to crush them and those oil well fellas.
The fall of the Alamo-and the torching/abuse of the dead defenders, who died honorably in battle-it is considered a cowardly and dishonorably act to treat an enemy’s remains with disdain-spurred the Texans into a fury that ended with them winning the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1936, and gaining independence-so I can’t think of a better day to do this-my Come and Take It battle flag is on my gate, right next to the Texas flag and it will stay there till after San Jacinto Day...
They wouldn’t just be messing with Texas oil-there is Louisiana to the East, Oklahoma to the North, and both are going to ignore the fed to keep warm and not broke-and there is part of the Permian Basin in NM, where the transplant Cali bunch insist on depending on the sun and wind, so they won’t defend the oil patch with any serious action. So who are the feds going to send-Milley’s transwusses in high heels? That won’t work out well...
IIRC-—Texas agreed to COME BACK into The Union WITH THE PROVISO THAT THEY COULD LEAVE AGAIN AT ANY TIME-—WITHOUT APPROVAL OF THE UNION.......
” They are planning to build an armory to manufacture ammunition for state use. “
Didn’t they build a gold repository?
yep. They talked about that as well. It’s almost like they were saying “we are preparing for independence” without directly saying it. But, I think it’s more in the context of preparing for a disaster and/or economic meltdown. I seriously doubt Texas will leave unless the USA collapses. But I do think many consider that an unfortunate possibility.
