A crowd laughed at Russia's top diplomat when he said the Ukraine war "was launched against us."

An audience member at India's G20 summit shouted "come on!" at Sergey Lavrov during the event. He was answering a question about Russia's energy strategy moving forward.

Sergey Lavrov, Russia's top diplomat and a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a conference in India Thursday said that the war in Ukraine "was launched against us," prompting the crowd to erupt in laughter.

Lavrov was a speaker at India's G20 Summit in New Delhi, leading a session that was part of a "Raisina Dialogue 2023" series. He was in discussion with Sunjoy Joshi, Chairman of the Observer Research Foundation in India, and took questions from the audience.

One audience member asked Lavrov: "How the war has affected Russia's strategy on energy, and will it mark a privilege toward Asia? And if it does, how is India going to feature in it?"

"You know, the war, which we are trying to stop, which was launched against us, using the..." Lavrov began, before being cut off by loud laughter from the crowd.

"...The Ukrainian people, uh, of course, influenced..." Lavrov tried again, before being cut off by more laughter and a shout of "Come on!" from the crowd.

I think a number of folks, if they researched how Germany
did things back in the 30s, the propaganda they used, and
a lot of it being so close to what Russia has done, would
be embarrassed if they were at all honest with themselves.

Maybe read up on the sordid history of Ukraine before February 2022 and you’ll see that war was declared on Russia by NATO and the west in 2014 when they overthrew Ukraine’s democratically elected president in favor of western stooge Poroshenko. I think Lavrov is much more informed than you and your fellow Zelenskyy fan boys.

read some more, little boy, and you’ll discover that Russia was already invading its neighbors - and thereby violating treaties it had freely signed - as far back as 2008

You’d think a young mother with 5 kids wouldn’t have time to go back to school and get a Ph.D. in Russian Studies in the last dozen yrs. Check out her About page. Boy, do I feel inadequate.

Simultaneously with Putin invading and taking over Crimea. Viktor Yanukovich was bribed a billion dollars by Putin to ease Putin’s way in Crimea. Yanukovich is a traitor and has lived in Russia ever since 2014

Lysenkoism is very much a part of Russian history.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysenkoism

The notion of politcal narratives rewriting historical fact came about in the modern era thanks to the Russians. Pictures would be airbrushed to remove unfortunate Russians from history. Atrocities would be committed and then blamed on others, such as the Katyn Forest Massacre.

And the latest ahistorical nonsense is to assert that Ukraine started the war in 2014 when Russian forces invaded Ukraine.

Naturally, it serves the Putin regime narrative to try to reimagine the war as defensive even though most Russians are already quite aware that the war was anything but defensive.

And I have never pretended to be “an expert in all things military” but I am familiar with many things and proficient at some of them. If in the unlikely event I ever meet you I’d be happy to demonstrate the things in which I am proficient.

Very happy.

I’m a woman, little man. Stop mansplaining and misgendering. And crack open a history book yourself. We promised Russia in 1991 that if they gave up Ukraine, NATO would never put weapons on their border. Russia gave up their bargaining chip and America lied. Tell us again about the importance of agreements.

And NATO didn’t “put weapons on their border”.
If you dispute that, say which weapons.

Neither the US nor any NATO country did such a thing.

Ukraine purchased weapons from various countries, which was its right.

Amazing how the TeeVee can turn people into mindless puppets.

We promised Russia in 1991 that if they gave up Ukraine, NATO would never put weapons on their border

WRONG - that promise was never asked-for by Russia, or given

all Gorby wanted was for NATO not to put bases in the former East Germany

but since you brought 1991 up, you'll of course remember how Russia signed treaties promising to respect all its neighbors sovereignty and borders ... which Russia proceeded to openly violate in 2008 by invading Georgia

(and IF you're a woman ... why aren't you "Princess of Space"? )
