Lisa Olson-Marshke walked into Donald Trump’s office here and pulled up a seat behind his desk. On one side was a red “Make America Great Again” hat, along with a gold-wrapped chocolate bar that proclaimed, “Trump was right!”
“It sort of felt like being there,” Ms. Olson-Marshke said of the mock Oval Office at the Conservative Political Action Conference, the annual four-day gathering that the former president will headline on Saturday as he accelerates his 2024 comeback campaign.
“I’m so excited,” said the 57-year-old from Michigan. “We need him back.”
Throughout the gathering, people have lined up for pictures at the Resolute desk replica, while snatching Trump hats, shirts, stickers, flags, ties, pins, buttons, earrings and rhinestone-studded purses from vendors. For all the talk of the former president’s waning status in the GOP, his strength among his followers is on sharp display inside the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center...
Trump is enjoying a bump in recent polls as he looks to hold off a number of potential rivals for the Republican nomination, none more formidable at the moment than Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. A feud between the two has been growing, but many CPAC attendees said they hope it can be resolved: Mr. DeSantis should serve as Mr. Trump’s running mate.
Others were less welcoming. “If DeSantis had courage he’d be here but he doesn’t have courage or loyalty,” said Trisha Hope, 59, of Houston, alluding to the governor’s decision to skip CPAC, along with several other potential presidential candidates and top GOP elected officials. “The establishment has made up their mind, they want DeSantis because they can control him.”
The governor, whose team declined to comment, was in Florida promoting his new book and on Thursday attended a donor retreat hosted by the conservative group Club for Growth

No little monkeys want to challenge King Kong?
Read that the room for Nimratta’s speech was very empty
Very empty room for Nikki Haley’s speech at CPAC. pic.twitter.com/ASvznNseJ7— MAGA War Room (@MAGAIncWarRoom) March 3, 2023
Isn’t there a problem with Matt Schlapp running CPAC?
The others are for the Bush, Cheney, Paul Ryan Republican party..
I'm telling you...this guy has a glass jaw. He chickened out of facing Trump at CPAC because his carefully curated tough-guy schtick can't take a hit. https://t.co/7BRm2rvw3h— Rick Wilson (@TheRickWilson) March 2, 2023
I’m sure that WSJ is depressed at that.
The establishment knows that the Republican base supports Trump. So why risk showing up and getting bored for speaking about their agenda of endless wars and billionaire welfare?
So, you can get merch, but nothing about election integrity?
Oops, should as “booed.” Nikki Hayley is very boring though!
king kong is doing an outstanding job as florida governor while trump is whining...
The Constitutional ban on electors voting for two people from the same state as themselves would be prohibitive, because it would take Florida's Electoral College votes for the Vice President off the table.
It would likely create a split administration.

A male staffer to the Herschel Walker campaign accused Schlapp of groping him.
It seems to me like a political dirty trick to try to take out CPAC in advance of the 2024 election.

I really like the idea of Trump-themed candies and chocolates. Good at parties and get togethers throughout the year, especially giving lots to kids on the Halloween just before election day.
Since it’s a one-shot, there could also be GOP-themed candies and chocolates.
There’s money to be made in them thar hills.
I would have thought the same thing, but a poll on the local news today isn't just leaning towards DeSantis, he has almost double the votes of Trump (DeSantis 49%, Trump %26, Other 25%, nearly 5000 votes).
Now, it's an online poll, which I don't trust one bit, but in this area (Central Virginia), on this news site, these "question of the day" political polls almost always skew heavily towards the conservative side.
Not implying anything -- just throwing it out there.
Heard it called QVCPAC.
Guilfoyle is hawking gold & silver. Kim's Metals.
Oy.
Who convinced Haley that there was a group of voters longing for her to run for POTUS? Chris Christie? Jeb Bush? Liz Cheney?
Cpac is a joke.
Re- Tweeting Pedo Rick Wilson now, huh. Shows where your values are.
