Russia suspends only remaining major nuclear treaty with US

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin declared Tuesday that Moscow was suspending its participation in the New START treaty — the last remaining nuclear arms control pact with the United States — sharply upping the ante amid tensions with Washington over the fighting in Ukraine.

Speaking in his state-of-the-nation address, Putin also said that Russia should stand ready to resume nuclear weapons tests if the U.S. does so, a move that would end a global ban on nuclear weapons tests in place since Cold War times.

Explaining his decision to suspend Russia’s obligations under New START, Putin accused the U.S. and its NATO allies of openly declaring the goal of Russia’s defeat in Ukraine.

“They want to inflict a ‘strategic defeat’ on us and try to get to our nuclear facilities at the same time,” he said, declaring his decision to suspend Russia’s participation in the treaty. “In this context, I have to declare today that Russia is suspending its participation in the Treaty on Strategic Offensive Arms.”

New START’s official name is The Treaty between the United States of America and the Russian Federation on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms.

If he did destroy American cities he would be very sorry and he knows that which is why he will not do it. So no I do not see any American cities being destroyed.

try to get to our nuclear facilities at the same time,”

LOL, US is "trying to get to our nuclear facilities at the same time". Its part of the New Start treaty Russia signed, inspections.

U.S. Says Russia Has Violated Nuclear-Arms Treaty by Blocking Inspections

Russia has violated the New START treaty cutting long-range nuclear arms by refusing to allow on-site inspections and rebuffing Washington’s requests to meet to discuss its compliance, the U.S. State Department said in a report sent to Congress

Suppositional history is always precarious because the variables in history are so numerous. Like people who say that Vietnam would have been avoided if JFK had not been assassinated - you just can’t know that or know which direction events would have taken. The variables that would present themselves in an alternate history where the Triple Alliance powers prevailed in WW I are enormous, beginning with the idea of those imperial powers surviving into the 20th century... things would have been different but hard to say if they would have been ‘better.’

Launching nukes at Ukraine would be suicidal for Russia.

Q: Which direction does the jet stream blow? What direction would the winds blow the radiation fallout from nuking Ukraine?

Unless Putin is willing to wipe out his own people, dropping nukes on Ukraine would be the stupidest thing he could possible do.

Blocking inspections - if their nuclear capability even slightly resembles their conventional forces ‘readiness’, then they’re very smart to block any and all access.

1. You do not know what was said in his state of the nation speech unless you read it. Not the excerpts the MSM selects for you. Read the speech. It is not that long. Plenty of English translations are around.

2. Recalibrate your thinking about the state of their tech and military and life in general. Zillions of videos on youtube and Rumble and other places that show what day to day life for the common citizen looks like. It is not what you have been led to believe.

3. More than at any time in my personal history, we should not believe our media. About almost anything. Case in point, when a US official has a phone call or meeting with a foreign official, the reportage is of what our official told the other. You have to go searching to find what the other told our official.

He will bet that fallout can be contained with a smaller low yield tactical nuke

DeSantis says Russia is a pushover

More precisely, he says that Russia isn't a great threat to America but that China is, our open borders are a threat, and Ukraine doesn't deserve a blank check from American taxpayers.

He's not wrong. I don't see Russia threatening America (it's entirely the other way around) but I look up in the sky and there's Chinese spy balloons over my head.

But I get it. You're going to criticize DeSantis. You don't like him. He's making Trump look weak and ineffectual and this troubles you.

Note above in the thread, START and SALT both have or had exit mechanisms. Using them does not constitute violations.

And when you see our MSM report some horrible violation, go searching for what violations the other side has accused of us. You will have to search because our worthless MSM won’t tell you.

Do you think if war broke out between Russia and the U.S., China would not back Russia?

Of course China would back Russia.

But if war breaks out between the U.S. and Russia, we have only ourselves to blame. Russia has no desire to start a war with the United States while we seem to have every desire to start one with Russia.
