DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Ford Motor Co. has suspended production and halted shipments of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup after a battery caught fire during a pre-delivery quality check.
Production at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, has been stopped until at least the end of next week.
The fire happened at an outdoor lot nearby in Dearborn where vehicles are held for quality checks. The truck with the battery problem and two nearby vehicles were damaged by the fire, Bergg said. No injuries were reported.
The company believes it has identified the root cause of the battery problem, including the likely population of trucks affected by it. “We monitor vehicle data to help ensure our vehicles are performing as expected in the field,” Bergg said.
The company will continue to hold completed trucks until engineering and production changes are made.

Another disappointment I have seen lately involves aftermarket replacement jeep leaf springs.
My dad bought the overhaul kit that is essentially the stock suspension.
He swapped everything over. One of several he has done over the years.
A few days later, the rear driver’s side spring essentially lost its strength and the jeep sits kind of lopsided.
I was looking at buying the same kit for mine.
As much as I wouldn’t want to add any suspension lift, there is a Rugged Ridge kit out there and another crowd that sells what looks like OEM type springs as well.
These trucks will make Pinto’s look safe. LOL

First problem: Jeep. :P
No, seriously, Jeep owners will buy some of the jankiest products out there for some reason and the aftermarket parts makers know this. That said, the stock suspension height parts are worse than usual because everyone knows that Jeep owners will almost always want to lift their rig. Who made the ‘overhaul kit?’ Some are better than others.

They catch on fire! and there is no putting them out and the vehicle is a total loss and your insurance company ain’t going to pay for the new electric vehicle in full.
You will owe the current car loan and a new car loan.
Think broken phone and having to pay off that phone while buying a new phone.
You also may have your home burn down or have to pay for the destroyed cars parked near by. If in an apartment you lose that as well as you are being sued by the owners for damage.
Electric vehicles will be stopped by the insurance companies.
This is the kit so guess India or China.

I hope they fire the clown who decided to make the F-150 battery powered. Ford has made billions from that truck since the 1940s. An electric F-150 is totally counter-intuitive.
Check into Springworks out of California, or OMIX/Ada’s stock spring offerings. The latter is imported but OMIX does the QC and testing on their own products.

Ford could have chosen a better name. Lighting is right up there with Chevy’s Nova (no go in Spanish) and Citation (traffic ticket).

Quality is slipping on everything of late sloppiness is the norm for many items.
We were looking for a used F150. 2018-19. They’re in the $30k to $40k price range. I’ve had a couple F250 diesels. Last one I had was a 2011 King Ranch. It was a great truck. I think I paid around $53k for it. I thought that was an outrageous price then. Nowadays they are crazy expensive.
Very people seem to care at all.
