Ford stops production of electric F-150 after battery fire

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Ford Motor Co. has suspended production and halted shipments of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup after a battery caught fire during a pre-delivery quality check.

Production at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, has been stopped until at least the end of next week.

The fire happened at an outdoor lot nearby in Dearborn where vehicles are held for quality checks. The truck with the battery problem and two nearby vehicles were damaged by the fire, Bergg said. No injuries were reported.

The company believes it has identified the root cause of the battery problem, including the likely population of trucks affected by it. “We monitor vehicle data to help ensure our vehicles are performing as expected in the field,” Bergg said.

The company will continue to hold completed trucks until engineering and production changes are made.

An EV truck? How do you differentiate between a battery fire and a dumpster fire?

Anyone who thinks an electric-only pick-up truck is a good idea needs to have their marketing team fired.

Just think...... congress just spent billions (with a B) for electric school buses made by companies who have never made electric vehicles.

We are going to put little kids on these. What could go wrong?

Maybe just a warning: Always part it outside, away from flammable shrubs and buildings.

I put a new battery in my Tacoma’s key.

CVS had a few of the one I needed and I had a coupon so almost free.

I got home and swapped a battery in . Dead fob.

2nd battery worked.

That’s the first dead out of the pack battery I can remember.

Lowest bidder, what could go wrong? Back in the lae 1970’s Grumman, the aircraft company was the lowest bidder to build transit buses. Long story short, NYC pulled the entire fleet because they were thinking about saving weight and made things thinner causing frames to crack while driving down the road. Minor detail.

When the batteries go south, it’s basically worth its weight in scrap metal.
