Biden tangles with GOP in raucous State of the Union — barely mentions China

WASHINGTON — President Biden’s State of the Union promised a call for unity but his repeated pokes at Republicans — and at least one glaring falsehood — saw the speech devolve into a near-shouting match Tuesday night.

Republican members of Congress vocally disputed several of his claims about them — but especially when Biden said the GOP was plotting Social Security cuts.

And in the 70-minute speech — which also drew jeers blaming the president for the rise in fentanyl deaths — Biden barely mentioned China, just days after a spy balloon from the communist aggressor traversed the US last week.

The 80-year-old president began his second State of the Union by appearing to make an effort to follow through on the White House’s “unity” messaging spin — warmly greeting House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) after entering, before he proceeded to attack the GOP.

“Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans, some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset,” Biden claimed, leading to an uproar from Republicans.

That moment left Biden attempting to calm the heckling by saying, “I’m not saying it’s a majority.”

“Anybody who doubts it, contact my office, I’ll give you a copy of the proposal,” Biden attempted to counter the loud jeers.

“Liar!” shouted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

“I’m glad to see — no, I tell you, I enjoy conversion,” Biden said, trying to play off the awkward and contentious moment.

Biden has repeatedly claimed that the GOP wants to cut Social Security and Medicare — despite McCarthy repeatedly and publicly ruling that out as he and other conservatives push for cuts to discretionary spending and a clawback of unspent pandemic stimulus funds as part of a debt ceiling impasse.

Stimulants help cognitive focus but they do tend to speed everything up. Odds are tomorrow old ]oe will be incommunicado while he comes down.

Don't "conservatives" realize that messing with money labelled "pandemic stimulus" is heresy?

Prior to the 2022 election Senator Rick Scott (R-FLA) said that the Senate would be looking at sunsetting Medicare and Social Security in the near future.

FJB is always tangling and dangling with somebody. Mostly little kids though.

“I’m glad to see — no, I tell you, I enjoy conversion,”

Well that's rather obvious given the demoncrapic push for kiddie genital mutilation and chemical castration.

I’m happy to say I missed this speech and I’m not surprised Biden was a partisan fool, not a statesman.

The powers running his presidency seem content that they control the election system so why should they worry about his appeal to voters?

I just watched the live thread
couldn’t bear to watch the actual gaslighting of the disunion speech

I was pleasantly surprised that they chose Sarah Huckabee Sanders to deliver the response. I was expecting a typical Republican clown like Boehner who would utter bland platitudes and emphasize that the Republicans support assistance for Ukraine.

Liberals own the election system world wide and will continue to control electronic voting. Conservatives better get used to losing elections especially important ones

Bingo. Eliminate mail in voting except for validated traditional means....

Otherwise the goose is cooked ...

Communications are privileged, not evidence, and any such check or deposit receipt is evidence no matter who hands it to him. But it’ll go into a shredder if subpoenaed.

Correcting my initial post, Senator Scott did not specifically say Medicare and Social Security in part 6 of his 11 point plan. He stated that all Federal programs should sunset and if congress wants them then they can vote for them again.

While I admire Scott for his plan that has some good ideas he was warned that the rats would use it against the Republican party by McConnell and others.

I can’t watch it, or my severe anger and depression regarding the miserable state of this country would be triggered.

All I can say is I hope this miserable bloviating pig face gets his due one day. Such a chump ...has lived off the taxpayers for how long? 30 years? 40 years? He and others like him are not just bad politicians — they the worse of humanity.

I doubt very seriously FJB had much input, if any, into this speech. It, as is typical, was a conglomeration of thoughts from nobama, Susan Rice, Ron Klain (I know he’s gone, but), ValJar and others.

This is why I didn’t bother to watch it.
