NJ Democrat says it’s ‘unacceptable’ to not raise debt ceiling

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) on Sunday called it “unacceptable” for the United States to get to a point where it is unable to pay its bills if the debt ceiling is not raised.

“The worst thing that could happen is we get to a point this summer where, suddenly, we can’t raise the debt ceiling and the full faith and credit of the United States is at risk and we don’t pay our debts,” Gottheimer told Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “That’s unacceptable. You can’t not pay your bills.”

Stealing the future of one’s grandchildren should be a capital offense.

How many times do we have to go through this meaningless showboat exercise before people start ignoring it? The debt ceiling will be raised, the spending was already approved. Not raising the debt ceiling would send interest rates right through the roof and the debt payments would still be in force, just way more expensive.

Even congress-critters aren’t that dumb.

You can’t “not pay your bills”?

But about the concept of a balanced budget, which would enable the federal government to pay all of its bills, and at the same time, stop ongoing increases in the national debt?

Just a thought. The implication that we must raise the debt ceiling because the alternative doesn’t allow for ongoing inflation of spending, doesn’t make sense.

Point being, there are alternatives to just raising the debt ceiling over and over.

the full faith and credit of the United States is at risk

What a joke. It's because of him and hundreds list like him who have already undermined such "full faith and credit".

I am not sure if you understand how the United States debt is currently structured. Your predictions are basically a fart in the wind. No one can predict the long-term consequences with any degree of accuracy... certainly not you or me. You are merely repeating the same old talking points that the big spenders spout out every time it looks like they might not get their way.

Not addressing the debt is irresponsible.

A member of the Democratic Party, Gottheimer was a speechwriter for Bill Clinton and served as an adviser to the presidential campaigns of Wesley Clark, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton. He has also worked for Burson Cohn & Wolfe, the Federal Communications Commission, Ford Motor Company, and Microsoft.

You can’t not pay your bills.

Democrats are idiots, scummy idiots. But we all know that. What are the bills?

Sending many millions of dollars to European illegal aliens - why should those be our bills? Sending billions of dollars to African nations so we can say we're nice guys, and the money goes to warlords and crooks - why should those be our bills? Sending billions of dollars to the United Nations so they can rule against us and help our enemies - why should those be our bills? Spending billions of dollars on illegal aliens who invade our land and victimize our citizens - why should those be our bills? Wasting many billions of dollars on so-called stimulus bills that contain pork for corrupt politicians to divert - why should those be our bills? And so on.

Democrats should learn to cut frivolous expenses; meanwhile Republicans should not raise the debt ceiling.

If you routinely raise the debt limit, then there is no limit.

It’s long pat time to start closing extraneous Federal Departments and agencies, of which there are many.
