American conservatives love to imagine immigrants as secret Republicans desperate to flee the Democrat barrio. The fantasy goes something like this: “Immigrants are hard-working, God-fearing people who love America more than any native! We just need to stop being bigoted and speak to these people in Spanish.”
This line has been propagated for as long as I’ve been alive. Despite the billions Republicans have spent on outreach, they only started doing well with immigrant communities when they were led by a guy who called them criminals and rapists.
Can immigrants save America? The answer is obviously no. By any metric, mass immigration would destroy the country conservatives wish to preserve . They’re not as “culturally conservative” as their right-wing fans claim. On pretty much every issue, immigrants favor the standard Democratic line.
Hispanics overwhelmingly favor big government over limited government. Hispanics and Asians overwhelmingly oppose abortion bans. Both groups support gay marriage. Both groups favor gun control. Both groups favor speech restrictions.

Immigrants vote for the party that promises them other people’s money.
It is a very long drawn-out read that doesn’t say anything much.
Reading the title covers it.
Not the title, but the first short paragraphs.
They caveat every discussion " We are all, for legal immigration but..". "We" are not all for it. So who the hell is "we", do they got a turd in their pocket?
The author needed to end his article right there, as that says it all.
Conservatives will begin to truly understand politics when they uderstand that all of this “muh free market, muh hard work, muh pull ourselves up by the bootstraps” stuff is largely garbage.
Politics is about patronage. Immigrants - including the “based, hard-workin’ bidness owner” ones - overwhelmingly go Democrat because Democrats have successfully turned them into clients by handing out preferential treatment and gibmedats.
No amount of Republican tax cutting and burbling about “getting off the Democrat plantation” is going to change that. You’re not going to shame immigrants out of wanting free stuff, in whatever form it may come. Unless Republicans either a) get serious about forcefully evicting the large mass of immigrants from the country, or b) get serious about using the resources of government to fish away Democrat clients into their own patronage network (an iffy proposition), the country is just going to keep tilting leftward.
I think, sadly, that you’re right.
And that’s why they had to cheat in elections, right?
Not yet, but in twenty years they won’t even need to. They’ll have gamed the system and gotten millions of their imports turned into voting citizens, and won’t even need 3 AM water leaks anymore.
My mom works with a number of Russian immigrants who are conservatives, and saw elderly Chinese clients for years who are so grateful to be here instead of in China. In both countries, the government disappears people, and her coworkers are alarmed that they’re beginning to see similarities in the way Russia and the USA are being run.
It scares the sh¡t out of me, too.

Speak for yourself. They are fleeing socialist third world s holes because THEY MADE IT A THIRD WORLD SOCIALIST S HOLE. Yeah, fine, maybe they don’t believe in abortion. But they sure believe in breaking the law and collecting free stuff. They are instant and forever democrat voters. Drive the 99 corridor from Bakersfield to Yuba City and tell me what country you’re in.
That’s basically what this article is saying.
What do you mean by “not yet”? If you mean the cheating, it’s already been done.
The one thing the left in the US perhaps is not counting on is having left the country open to foreign invasion. We have more enemies out there than most people think; one of the biggest is who Obama and his current puppet called our biggest ally in the “West”.
I remember all that ‘natural conservatives’ crap here on FR waaay back in the day. If you didn’t believe that the border jumpers would vote conservative you were a racist heretic.
