The decision to move forward with providing the tanks marks a reversal for the Biden administration, which had been resisting pressure from Germany to send them to Ukraine.
President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced that the United States is sending 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine in its war against Russia.
The U.S. will also provide the necessary training and supplies needed to operate and run these tanks, he said.
NBC News reported the development Tuesday.
The president said sending the tanks will "enhance Ukraine’s capacity to defend its territory and achieve its strategic objectives" because they are "the most capable tanks in the world.”
"That’s what this is about — helping Ukraine defend and protect Ukrainian land. It is not an offensive threat to Russia, there is no offensive threat to Russia," the president said.
During a background call previewing Biden’s remarks, senior administration officials said the announcement is “very much a continuation of our effort to provide Ukraine with the capabilities that they need to continue to better defend themselves.”
“And it’s also in keeping with that representative of a long term, long term commitment that we have to Ukraine’s defense needs,” a senior administration official said.

If American crews are in country training the Ukes, they are a legitimate target... it’s time for Congress to say yes or no to this. Unfortunately if they were forced to vote today regarding war, they would very likely vote for it. We are in a post-rational world.

Bingo!! That the operative question. The Abrams is a world away from the Russian stuff the Ukies have been using. Back when Nixon first sent F4s to Israel the IDF sent its best pilots and crews to Lackland to learn the Phantom’s abilities and foibles. It still took 3 to 6 months to be combat ready. How long before the Abrams are combat ready and where will training happen and what about parts.
Go get them from Afghanistan where they were abandoned in the hundreds.

If China can get the USA to crush Russia, that's one more superpower China gets out of the way on their quest for world domination..
China is on their way to conquering the USA from within, if only they could get Russia out of the way.

If you are going to do this, then you should at least do it in a timely manner rather than waiting until the Ukrainians are on the ropes. Biden is always behind the curve. Same problem with Afghanistan.
It’s curious. There are a lot of bad actors on the world stage. The most they seem to have against Putin is that he is against gay propaganda being spread through out Russia and he promotes traditional Russian institutions, especially the Orthodox Church. I first started noticing this with that girl band ‘Pu$$y Riot.’
As far as the Russian enclaves that fell outside of Russia’s borders with the collapse of the USSR, that historical anomaly is hardly even noticed in the West whereas it’s been Putin’s motivation throughout. How many Americans do you think know anything about it?
What a waste of money. Absent ground troops from NATO (which would be a stupid mistake), Ukraine has no chance to hold off Russia.
I don’t know if Russia will lose but it’s definitely thinning out their military.
