I think they're a step along the way but that we're not there yet.

However, I expect many of the systems already in place (like the card systems you mentioned) will help facilitate the final implementation.

The local grocery stores will become basically an extension of "The State" under the Beast and will refuse service to those without the Mark of the Beast - and will turn Tribulation Saints in (betrayed unto death) for refusing the Mark of the Beast. Covid-19 made an excellent dry-run controlling Buying and in some cases, Selling. Spooky in fact. AND world-wide, basically.
