Shortly after it was made public that Joe Biden was embroiled in a classified document scandal, that the Department of Justice seemed to handled quite differently than they had with former President Donald Trump; U.S. House Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, announced he was launching an investigation into the Biden classified document scandal.
“We are conducting oversight of the Justice Department’s actions with respect to former Vice President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents, including the apparently unauthorized possession of classified material at a Washington, D.C., private office and in the garage of his Wilmington, Delaware, residence,” Jordan wrote in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland.
“On January 12, 2023, you appointed Robert Hur as Special Counsel to investigate these matters. The circumstances of this appointment raise fundamental oversight questions that the Committee routinely examines. We expect your complete cooperation with our inquiry.”
Jordan has received a letter from the Office of the Assistant Attorney General in response to his letter.
This letter (which was obtained by Politico) from the DOJ signaled they were unable to share information with the Judiciary Committee as it is an ongoing investigation.
House Judiciary GOP tweet in response to the letter:
“Why’s DOJ scared to cooperate with our investigations?”
My reply “yes. We will keep it as quiet as the doj investigation in to the documents in marilago.”
And if he doesn’t show up? What are they going to do? Refer him to the DOJ?
Yes, refer him for criminal prosecution for defying a Congressional subpoena. They may not prosecute him, but he’ll then have that asterisk associated with him forever, like a few others.
They also have the rarely used but not unprecedented option of involving the House’s Sargeant at Arms/police force, which has its own jail under the Capitol.
Congress needs to cut every cent of funding to the DOJ until they cooperate with congress.
Jim Jordan has a pretty good sense of humor.
I look forward to hearing his way of telling the DoJ to pound sand. :)
Don’t screw around with them. 1. Committee requests a department or agency head for appearance or information. Avoid media release about it. 2. If no or delayed response, issue subpoena immediately. Set definite timeline for compliance. Avoid media release about it. 3. If still no response or missed timeline, send US Marshall SWAT team for assault / apprehension raid at individual’s home during wee hours of the AM. Avoid media, but ensure the entire event is videotaped. 4. Hold individual in custody indefinitely until compliance with congressional request.
In other words - Don’t talk about it, don’t run to appear on TV, or make public announcements, don’t grandstand about it. Just get the job done. BE SERIOUS, METHODICAL and DETERMINED TO SAVE OUR NATION.
The Capital Police have given every indication they are loyal to the deep state.
I do not think they can be called upon.
That really showed them with Fast and Furious, Øbowel/Holder, didn't it?
Holder is still laughing his butt off.
Bkmk
Because the asterisk has done soooooooooooooooo much in discouraging others.
I agree, except the DOJ has equal authority, independence, and absolute immunity. Even more than Congress if they have the President backing them.
were unable to share information with the Judiciary Committee as it is an ongoing investigation.
This is there way of saying FU
It is time we remove their protections and drag them into the light
Great analysis.
The main reason I voted for Trump was because, since he already HAD money, making money from his office had less temptation for him.
Secrecy equals foul play.
Biden DOJ Panics, Biden may talk to keep crime family safe if charges come about.
He has a very long list on the election alone.
The entire purpose of appointing Robt. Hur is to prevent Congress from holding any meaningful hearings. “Mustn’t interfere with an ongoing investigation!” The ploy may well work.
