COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A bill allowing police to charge a bigger fine for people driving slow in the left lane of interstates and other multilane highways is one of the first to be taken up at the South Carolina Statehouse in 2023.

Only if you’re an Eagles fan.
I understand the left lane should be a passing lane. Traffic conditions don’t always work to that effect, but on general principle it’s a pretty good idea.
But I live in Texas. And in Texas you have to learn to live with passing on the right whenever possible. If someone is slow poking in the left lane, then by all means go around them. It’s not that hard.
States can pass all the laws they want to, and people can get their panties in a wad all they want to about inconsiderate left lane hogs, but life is too short to freak out over this.
Go around them. We Texans do this routinely. Daily. All the time. it’s how we roll.
Now, get rid of spam robocalls, and finally govt is useful for once.
exactly. If you’re not passing the cars on your right, move over.
Until they legally post an increased speed limit for the left lane, the left lane slow drivers are allowed by law to drive the speed limit. It sucks but that’s the way it is and try to take them to court for not speeding in the slow lane, you’ll lose every time.
Consider yourself flamed.
Where does it say that in the state drivers manual?
It doesnt.
Agreed. And how about those younger drivers playing the popular game of lurking then tailgating.
You’re in the right lane and have your cruise control set. Another vehicle is shadowing you from far back in the left lane, going the same speed as you.
When you get into the right lane to pass a truck, the shadowing driver floors it to catch up and drive within a few feet of your rear end. Do the punks have an anal fantasy?
Install cameras front and rear. Get the immature psychos off of the roads.
It's not really a difficult concept. In fact, It's pretty damning of humanity that it has to be stated at all.
Ha! The call centers use the list. Joining it only brings more calls. They just call from India, etc.
YES YES YES....far left lane is for passing and slower traffic keep right.
I drive most days and nights on a highway with more trucks and deer crossings than seen on most highways. There are also murderers, kidnappers, drug runners and many with drug induced mental problems (news reports).
The key is to be cool, always. If the traffic gets too weird and frantic, stay in the right lane and slow down as much as necessary. Let the long line of hysterical drivers tailgate each other in the left lane.
In regards to the potholes, be ready to rebuild the front end and suspension—easier to rebuild than a human body. Driving such a highway 50,000 miles or more a year, think about your chances.
Read the area crash reports to see what you’re missing. It’s encouraging.
Little correction to what I wrote earlier. ...left lane to pass a truck,...

“A Senate subcommittee Tuesday approved increasing the fine from $25 to up to $100 and giving most of the increased amount to the state Highway Patrol.”
It looks like South Carolina wants its Highway Patrol to work on commission.
… the left lane slow drivers are allowed by law to drive the speed limit...
True but stupid, dangerous, and discourteous.
I always just assume they’re Democrats.
Forcing people to do things their way…it’s the Democrat M. O.
Here in Florida it’s so common slow drivers clogging up the left lane on interstate. Even in town, slow cars in the left lane going under the speed limit and pacing a car in the right lane so you’re stuck behind both of them. No courtesy or common sense.
some smarts need to be applied to that!! If youre out in BFE, then like the signs say, Slower traffic keep right. but you’ll always have the moron who does exactly the speed limit in the left land and then even speeds up when someone attempts to pass them on the right. and then slows back down when no one can pass on the right. those morons deserve all 4 tires shot out...

I’ll always remember some 20 years ago I’m I 35 north heading toward Dallas there was this little old lady in the left lane doing about 55. Naturally there were trucks and lots of slow traffic in the right lane and we were bottlenecked behind her for 30 or 40 minutes.
Just about the time someone could pass her in the right lane, they would get stuck behind an 18 wheeler who is doing maybe 58 mph. This went on and on and on.
Finally I was able to pass her and as I did I moved in front of her and slowed down to about 40 mph. This allowed some 40 or 50 cars. I am not kidding, to pass us on the right. I know plenty of people perhaps thought I was a big jerk. Perhaps I was the one responsible for holding up dozens of cars. And perhaps I should have moved on up to 75 or 80 mph and forgotten it. But I felt like I needed to clear the congestion. The best way I could.
