While technically that’s what it says. But that’s a sketchy documents and many people write “owned” when they are not paying rent or mortgage when living in a parent’s or family owned home. (And when you are part of the 1%, there are a lot of family corporation owned homes.)

We need to be careful reading “office use” documents as if they are Federal Government documents.
When I worked for a bank we took information to confirm an identification. I don’t think we “took the applicant’s word” for much beyond giving us their name, DOB and SSN.
Everything else is pretty much available on line. Their employer filled in most of the rest.

No, box is “Current Residence” and the options are a) Own b) Lease c) Family/Friend.
I work in the industry. This is a pretty standard application form. If you check “Own”, you are saying that you own your current residence, not that it is simply owned by someone (or everyone could check that first box, since every residence is owned by someone).
Does your company (I was doing HELOCs) rely on the “checked box” or do they have “trusted sources” that find out all this stuff in the background?
