Here is the study. The abstract is below.
Here is a quick summary of the some of study’s principle flaws, in no particular order:
It’s not actual research on children. It is a meta-analysis of previously published (and ignored) studies — a study of otherwise unpersuasive studies. The authors did a literature search for previous epidemiologic studies on gas stoves and asthma in kids and then just mixed those results together in an effort to contrive statistical significance. This is a bogus technique for a number of reasons including publications bias in the component studies — i.e., studies with null results aren’t published. The study results, including the component studies, are weak statistical associations — i.e., noise range correlations. The study results, likely including the component studies, are not statistically significant either. Asthma is an allergic disease.
There are no allergens in natural gas.
So the study has no biological plausibility.
No one knows what causes asthma in children and so competing causes could not be ruled out.
The claim that gas stoves are responsible for 12% of childhood asthma – an epidemioogic concept called “attributable risk” – is entirely bogus because epidemiological studies can only be used to associated exposures with disease. They cannot be used to determine risk of disease because (1) the underlying data is not representative of the population; and (2) epidemiologic studies cannot be used by themselves to determine cause-and-effect relationships.
If none of that means anything to you. you need to read “Junk Science Judo: Self-defense Against health Scare and Scams.”
So everyone should start feeding their kids fast food takeout instead. That will make them fat and lazy thereby easier to control once on welfare.
I will be putting a wood cook stove in the new house.
Another way to lessen the demand for fossil fuels.
Just like the media...they make stuff up to further their agenda and to scare people. “For the children”! /s
Bttt
Generally speaking, if you can do the opposite of what Joe Biden is suggesting, then you are in good company. They want everybody to go out & buy an electric car, too. If you can’t afford to switch from a gas range to an electric, it’s unlikely you could afford the EV either
” There’s no doubt we are in Obama’s third term.”
Given what the government continued to do under Trump, some would call it his fourth.
“Emotional blackmail. Who wants to choke kids.”
The very same people who want to let little kids decide “I’m a girl now” or “I’m a boy now” and chop off perfectly healthy organs. Or take little tykes to see mental misfit men dressed in women’s clothes and grotesque makeup.
We should not let them get away with this horrendous hypocrisy. You cannot protect kids from a zero-risk ubiquitous fuel at the same you destroy them emotionally and mentally.
The premise is absurd just on the face of it. There is not even anecdotal evidence to suggest the claim.
We have cooked with gas for decades and suffer no ill effects. I don’t know of a single person who has ever suspected any problems at all.
As for the leaks and poor ventilation cited, that is a different problem on par with bare wires and bad switches or breakers. Fix it.
“Leaks and poor ventilation” — these problems have not existed in homes built in the last 50 years due to stringent building codes. The codes require extensive testing of gas lines for leaks and require kitchen ventilation.
If a few people do not maintain their equipment, the government’s solution is to take all natural gas away from all people. It is utterly insane.
Yes, lines seldom leak. The claim was that valves in the stoves are leaking. So fix them instead of banning them?
Yup, about as absurd as...well, I can’t think of many things more stupid except the rest of this gooberment.
So the study has no biological plausibility.
That’s how you know Biden is involved with it.
Biden = No Plausibility
“Yup, about as absurd as...well, I can’t think of many things more stupid except the rest of this gooberment.”
AMEN! It is full-blown tyranny.
They want to ban gas stoves for us.
More control freakishness.
I have gas heating also.
That problem in Texas came as a surprise to me also, but of
course not as big a one as it was to you.
I hear conflicting reports. Do they have that issue
addressed properly now?
We had a sharp freeze spell recently where temps here in San Antonio got to 17F, but without sleet/snow like the first. No loss of either electricity or water this time...though things went better this time, I suspect there are still problems lurking.
Correlation is not causation, as the saying goes, which shoots the hell out of my theory that moving trees make the wind blow.
Thanks for the mention. I’d feel the same way about the
soundness of the system after that blow out. Take care.
just home many restarants would be put out of business by banning gas stoves
When we first bought our house, it had an electric stove. I got rid of it and put in a gas stove, so as to have backup heat source in the winter (seems like every winter when there's freezing rain we loose power, from anything from a couple of hours to three days).
I also have a fireplace.
