Remarks from Florida GOP Rep.-elect Matt Gaetz :
"You only earn the position of speaker of the House if you can get the votes. Mr. McCarthy doesn't have the votes today, he will not have the votes tomorrow, and he will not have the votes next week, next month, next year," Gaetz said as he nominated Ohio GOP Rep.-elect Jim Jordan to serve as the next speaker of the House.

You speak as though you believe that the Republican members of the House actually care about what is good and decent for the citizenry of this nation.
THEY CARE NOT!
All that matters now is who get what plums and in what order and how deep hands will be dipped into the treasury.
“List what Gaetz wanted and what he got or ****up!”
The short list is what Gaetz has not gotten. Those are listed below:
Man of His Word - to Biden, not loyalty to the voters that brung him to the dance.
Unlike the lockstep of the 'democratic' party.
At this point McCarthy is going to be the speaker he’s down to 4 votes needed to out right win it and now has more votes the the democrats, so has other options.
Before he had to either get more republicans to vote for him, or get democrats to vote for him.
Now, that e clearly has the most votes, he doesn’t need the democrats to vote for him, but just needs a few democrats not to vote or vote present, and he can win.
Ideally, and best route is getting enough republicans, and with the number needed down to 4 out of 8, odds are almost certainly he will get them, just a matter of what he will need to give away to get them.
Getting democrats to directly vote for him is the worst option, as democrats will be viewed as a traitor by their base for doing it and McCarthy will likely have to give up some serious concessions to make that happen.
The third option, is a middle ground between the two, he would still need to give up something to dems to make them not vote or vote present.. and those folks who do it would likely take a hit with their base in.. but not as big of hit or concession would be needed.
This is going to come to a head eventually, and if I had to gamble I would say 4 of the remaining 8 will yield soon... Whether it be because of threats to take things away from them when McCarthy wins, or carrots offered to help him win, or a bit of both, who’s to say.
Yep, that speaks for me too.
What I don’t like is that Gaetz lied publicly.
He said in the beginning that doing many rounds would produce compromise and get better results. I agreed with that.
But now that he got much of what he wanted... he is making a u-turn.
He now says he simply doesn’t want McCarthy at all WHATEVER the compromises he gets in return !!
This is not all at what Gaetz said in the beginning. He totally changed his strategy in a sudden way, in direct contradiction to his own previous words.
Im sorry, but this is very childish.
What exactly is so upsetting about this process playing out?
Is legislation stuck that Biden would sign tomorrow? No.
Will they defund the IRS agents and DOJ J6 investigations? No - the omnibus took care of that.
So the upsetting part is that they can’t seat committees and act important. That’s it. They can’t pretend to investigate. They can’t posture for the next election.
This is all such a farce. It’s been a few days… and we need to “save the constitution” said one member today. Save it from what? Seems to me that nothing has changed compared to if they were seated. Nothing.

There is NO TRUST where McCarthy is concerned, I don’t blame them Gaetz just like us firmly believes that McCarthy will SNAKE his way out of this agreement and if he does what the hell are they going to do about it?? It will be a cold day in hell trying to remove him as speaker BANK ON IT!!!

You’re the one obviously full of BS. Gaetz has been clear from the VERY start he was a permanent, hard no on McCarthy no matter what. If anything, he should be commended to sticking to that when most all the others are all cashing their new checks.

WEF did not appoint McCarthy as House speaker
For God’s sake stop the your fake news and propaganda.
We’ll, you know the WEF has chosen their Speaker and it’s McCarthy. The repugs in the House don’t represent the base but they are beholden to the money and power of the WEF. It’s just that simple.
Unlike lock-step democrats, the house speaker for Republicans does not have a singular party.
I have seen some of his public comments on TV.
In the beginning Gaetz never said that McCarthy was a “no go” whatever the cost.
What he said is that a few days maybe even a week of discussions was necessary in order to obtain guarantees in return. And he has now got some serious guarantees. But now Gaetz doesn’t seem to care about those guarantees anymore... now that he finally got them.
It’s not fair-play and honest to pretend you are willing to compromise, but in the end saying “Nah, I don’t care.”.
Gaetz should have said RIGHT FROM START that he never ever would accept McCarthy. But, he didn’t! That’s a political error, and bad communication.
Gaetz has been 10% opposed to McCarthy from day 1. You’re just trying to rewrite history to smear him. You lose.
