Illinois law enforcement is preparing new ways to best serve and protect law-abiding citizens as the state’s new sweeping criminal justice reform bill takes effect Sunday, a local sheriff said.
"We've spent a lot of time trying to prepare for what's coming," Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon told Fox News. "Trying to sift through a thousand pages to determine where our role is and what's going to change and how we can best serve the citizens that we protect has been first and foremost for us."
Illinois' Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today (SAFE-T) Act, which went into effect Jan. 1, overhauled Illinois' justice system with provisions like limiting when defendants can be deemed flight risks and allowing defendants under electronic monitoring to leave home for 48 hours before they can be charged with escape. It was also supposed to eliminate cash bail, but the state's Supreme Court stayed that portion hours before the law was set to take effect.

Small favors, I swear. My husband was worried last night and serviced all of his firearms before he went to bed.
That law puts the “ill” in Illinois.
If their Supreme Court allows this law through you can bet that most people who plan new businesses (factories, office complexes and the like) will scrub Illinois off their list of places to locate.
I’d say the ‘no’.
Ha. Illinoway.

You’ve got to give them credit for one thing. They know how to give horrible laws pleasant names. Biden’s Inflation-causing “Inflation Reduction Act” is another example of that.
In the old days the press would have hooted at those names. But back then the press was not a lackey of the Democrat Party.
No one can define “equity” as a legal definition.
I say equity is “eye for and eye, tooth for a tooth”. Ready you .380
Good for him. I have one left to clean…
In Indiana and got a friend in Illinois.
Says over half the state (southern) can’t believe what is happening. I’ve jokingly said they should secede to Indiana and he agrees.
They do have a twisted sense of humor, don’t they?
Anything passed by libs with “fairness” and “equity” in the titles is assured to be the complete opposite.

The really scary thing is that many Democrat voters actually believe the wording of these laws. Yes, this new bail law really will make Illinois a safer place!
Behind closed doors, the Democrat bosses must laugh heartily at those gullible fools.
Whatever happened to “women and minorities” are hurt first?
They finally got it right.
Bottom line people of color will not be held responsible for any rape murder or crime of any sort
We call that Saturday afternoon in my house.
Most people living in Illinois will most likely shoot the perps before calling the cops. I don’t see Sheriffs being a supporter of this law.
“Says over half the state (southern) can’t believe what is happening. I’ve jokingly said they should secede to Indiana and he agrees.”
It’s more than just the southern half.
