there seemed to be a general consensus that this company didn’t pay well.

Not to be contrarian but I'm pretty sure he's very well compensated. It's just the lower tier not doing so well.

Sounds like this 1%er is pissed that he can’t force workers into his substandard wage jobs.

Of course the Fed is asking employers to stop paying people more because higher wages will drive up inflation.

While I agree that america has an obesity problem and open borders aren’t helping in the smarts department I think if the owner of Home Depot wants better workers he should pay more.

I’m starting to like Home Despot more.

This, and years ago railing against universal commieCare.

I'm wondering if they're still pro-homo. IIRC many Freepers called them Homo Depot before Obergefell.

If you boycott every institution where a boycott has been called for on FR, you’d best become Amish.

Exactly. So I’m gonna get up at the crack of dawn drive across town in rush-hour traffic drive back in rush-hour traffic essentially spending 12 hours of my day getting ready for a job and being on the job and driving to and from the job for nine bucks an hour. And this billionaire clown wants to know why People arent motivated.

I relocated last year. The first time I visited my local Mennonite-owned hardware store was the last time I set foot in a Home Depot or Lowe’s.

I leave reminiscing about old hardware stores where the workers could answer questions and find the right items.

Our town still has one of those. Right at what used to be the crossroads of our town (we're an official suburb now). 4 generations, they still have the creaky wooden floors. Costs a little bit more (but not always). They survive by doing old hardware store things - repairs on machinery, carrying 1000 types of screws and bolts, specializing in high-end tools, garden equipment and BBQ sets.

I make a point to send friends in there. America's already become a corporate parking lot. we have to preserve the local community.

Here in Indiana, $15/hr jobs are going unfilled all over the place. So I doubt many folks with any ability are working for 9.

Conversely - and anecdotally - I’ve experienced, during and since covid, the best and most consistently good restaurant service nearly everywhere. I can’t explain it.

A lot of folks at HD, Lowes, and Menards are retirees from “regular” careers. Talking to them, I don’t get the vibe that you describe.

“If you boycott every institution where a boycott has been called for on FR, you’d best become Amish.”

In the old days it was the leftists who attacked the “evil corporations”.

Today most large corporations have become infested by woke zombies—so are best avoided whenever possible.

As a general rule you do not want to subsidize people who hate you—it never ends well—for you.

The simple country life is not so bad...

I think the big problem is lack of ownership and family formation. I own a house, have wife/kids, therefore I work and save. I’d be no different if I was deep in debt with a pointless degree, and no relationships beyond hook up culture. Wouldn’t think past the next chance to get wasted and hook up. This lifestyle has been promoted since the mid 60’s and people are somehow surprised at the results.

Perhaps more emphasis on Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality, LGBTQI, and Wokeness will help our next generation?

So the leftys boycott HD too, although Bernie retired from there in 2002 LOL.
