Police in Monroe County Pa., have arrested a man in the fatal stabbings of four sleeping students at the University of Idaho last month.
The killings discovered Nov. 13 at the off-campus apartment house shocked people across the nation. The town had not had a single murder in seven years prior to the quadruple murder.
Arrest paperwork filed in Monroe County Court obtained by the Associated Press said Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, was being held for extradition to Idaho on a warrant for first-degree murder.
The students, three of whom lived together about a mile from their campus, were: Kaylee Concalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. Chapin was Kernodle’s boyfriend who was staying overnight.
State and federal sources confirmed to PennLive that a person in Monroe County, in northeastern Pa., was arrested in connection with the killings.
Kohberger was arraigned Friday morning in Monroe County. National news outlets previously said he was 25 years old.
The Moscow Police Department in Idaho is holding a press conference on Friday at 1 p.m., their time, which would be 4 p.m. EST.
The break in the case came on the same day the rental home was expected to be cleaned up after the horrific crime.
Two other roommates were home asleep on the ground floor during the killings but slept through it and were not harmed. The victims were on the second and third floors, according to ABCNews.
Earlier in the investigation, police were looking for a white Elantra that was seen in Moscow at about 3:45 a.m. The killings were believed to have occurred around 3 a.m., an hour or more after the victims returned from a local bar and a fraternity party.
Gonclaves’ mother told ABCNews she believed the killer was “very methodical. I think he really thought it out. I think he was quick. I think it was quiet. And he got in and he got out.”
Probably unnecessary, but keep Krasner well away from this.
Let’s say German speakers from Palatinate and Switzerland.
It’s always a treat to read and hear all the experts comment on how the cops are incompetent, and then see this.
In a nutshell, the MPD has told civilians “we’re investigating and you don’t get a vote.” Good on ‘em.
right, but this one here is only a murderer.
Both these comments are awfully weird, almost implying it’s okay to kill if it’s geographically correct. Check your beliefs, guys.
The prosecutor in the OJ case did a p8ss poor job.
Kosher people don’t eat milk dishes from pans that meat has been cooked in. Just saying.
No. it was to say that the person was in the area of the murders. The comment I replied to was a geographical comment. Not a morality one.
“Of course he was (colluding with Russia).”
Thanks, it’s always good to know where people stand on Trump.
Donald is amazing and would have gone to me public high school. In Jamaica Queens. But his father sent him off to a military school upstate on the Hudson.
I’m sure a PA judge will release him on his own recognizance. If I was the dad of any of the deceased, I’d put up the bail for him. Sorry your honor, he left for a walk and never came back.
Unless you’ve dressed/butchered large animals you might not have a feel for how much strength it takes to thrust/slice/stab with a large knife especially if it has a heavier profile blade like the reported “Kabar” style would have had. And one doesn’t just point and stab. You also have to restrain/hold or otherwise pull back on the target to get penetration. It’s a two-handed job.
The father of one girl said she was “sliced” in the back-—thru a lung and liver. That requires two hands. If nothing else, watch a butcher work sometime——it’s a two handed job and the cow/pig/goat/sheep isn’t fighting back. In this case it seems while one was being stabbed the other was resisting, based on reports of “defensive wounds?”
So, yeah, there’s a bit of a skill set involved. And, oh, yeah. Getting the knife sharp is another minor skill. Having sold thousands of knives over the years I can say that very few are completely sharp off the rack. Manufacturers do that to keep casual customers from needing bandaids before they get home. Anyone planning on doing damage with a knife would try to fully sharpen it before going to work.
Without a bit of experience cutting up meat, etc. it would seem likely that the killer probably knicked himself. To demonstrate for yourself, try picking up a 7” knife sometime and visualize how you would stab or slice a moving target with it. For half the strokes the blade will be pointing at yourself. So, yeah, there’s some skill involved.
I did not know that.
I apologize to anyone who I may have inadvertently compared to a psychotic murderer.
When arrested he asked if anybody else had been arrested. Was there an accomplice?
Those "skills" are learned by living. I'm sorry, I forget how isolated and pampered the metro dwellers have become.
I never do the Ancestry genealogy tests.
Police make mistakes and then yu better have a good lawyer if you,re innocent.
Don’t you think they had an eye on the Hyundai while he was still in the Idaho area but unable to make an arrest waiting for forensics?
“Kohberger is a German name...definitely NOT “Amish”!”
Moreover, his middle name is “Christopher,” which means “Christ-bearing.”
