Think your bills are high now? All the tax hikes hitting Americans on January 1 revealed: Electricity costs to soar and even your nest egg is not safe
Daily Mail ^ | 30 December 2022 | JAMES GORDON

Democrats claimed the Inflation Reduction Act would help ordinary Americans, but new analysis suggests people making less than $400,000 a year could end up paying $20 billion of the new tax revenue it brings in.

President Joe Biden signed the act into law in August, injecting $473 billion of new spending on climate and healthcare, yet there are strong concerns it will do little to reduce inflation.

In fact, middle class Americans will pay new taxes - directly contradicting Biden's promise to not raise penalties on people earning under $400,000.

It's quite the strategy actually. It's slow peeling off of wealth and assets. A few here, a few there. No revolts, no demonstrations just people desperately wading the waves trying to stay afloat.

And because no one is allowed to talk about, no one wants to be the guy financially struggling among their peers. Until one day, they, too, are living in their car or a tent.

and even your nest egg is not safe

Oh, please. Do me a favor. Don't use the word. You may not use that word. It's off limits to you! Only those in this house who understand nest egg may use it! And don't use any part of it, either. Don't use 'nest.' Don't use 'egg.' You're out in the forest you can point: 'The bird lives in a round stick.' And, and, and you have things over easy with toast!"

What I keep thinking is, what did it take for the German people to lash out against Hitler. The answer is that no matter how bad it got, they never did.

That’s how I see this going down. People will not take a path until they have no choice, like when the Germans were piling up cars and furniture to stop the Soviet tanks in Berlin.

Too little, too late. It cost them decades. As it will us.

Property taxes are downright punitive in most areas. One reason I moved here was because of the property taxes. 32 acres with a house and a new 30x60 shop building, 25 acres of woods with tens of thousands of dollars of saleable lumber, and all for less than $500 a year in taxes. A lot less.

Like I often say, when I moved here it was the closest I could get to ex-patriating without actually leaving the country. And it is absolutely beautiful here, and personal freedom is at the top of the list.

All that said, the first two minutes of this is the scariest movie scene in existence. It could be me on my property in that video.

Those of sound mind will be getting out there and spending all the nest egg money, before it is expropriated by whatever means (inflation, ruinous taxes, a few fees and regulatory requirements).

In the end you shall lose everything. But make the bastards fight you for every cent. If you are not in a position to make a kill strike, retreat in such way you evade the traps and can locate a secure location to make a final stand. There are better hills and worse hills to die on.

Choose your hill wisely.

That and the bar scene are two of the greatest tension building scenes in movie history, Tarantino is the master of it.

Biden’s promise to not raise penalties on people earning under $400,000.

Nothing can disappear faster than a Biden promise and your money.

I think a lot of people are doing it through quitting their jobs, quiet quitting, early retirement, etc.

i.e. voting with their feet.

I think it’s a lot worse than “they” are letting on. I think 2023 is going to be a watermark year. We should prepare accordingly.

BTW, regarding my relying on SS: As I used to say to my friends in high school in 1972, when they wondered what would happen if the government stopped honoring savings bonds - if they stop honoring them, we will be in a different world and that will be the least of your problems. Same with those of us already on SS.

One of the great things about SS is that the payment amount and rules have nothing to do with where you live in the country. This means that the massive increases my wife and I have personally seen the last couple of years offset increases in the cost of living that simply did not materialize for us. Our monthly costs are pretty much untouched, while our payments increased by close to a thousand a month.

Sometimes the government is too smart by half. We try to exploit that.

The actor who played Hallstrom was so good in that scene.

Brutal, brutal movie. Especially that farmhouse scene. Every since I saw that movie, I’ve disliked the actor that played the German colonel. Good guy, bad guy...if he’s in a movie, my hackles rise.

Speaking of property taxes. NC is required to re-value property values at least once every 8 years. You can bet they’ll be locking in the increased values after the recent surge in sales prices. We’re sitting on $5 grand a year right now. I fully expect a grand increase.

I so envy you at $500.

Prepper Ping - Taxes and Home Heating energy increasing at an alarming rate
Along with the 12% price increase for food, salaries are being diminished, and savings accounts are being depleted

artichokegrower : "One of these taxes is a regressive tax on American oil and gas development, which is estimated to increase taxes by $6.5 billion."
The tax hike goes against President Biden's promise not to raise taxes for Americans making less than $400,000 per year.

"According to the American Gas Association, this methane tax alone could result in a 17 percent increase on the average family's natural gas bill "

Just received my Dec 2022 electric bill (Our house is 100% electric) for $243.10. Last year (for the same time period), the bill was $147.77. Granted, this year the average temp was 21 F and last year the average was 31.

The kicker is that we installed 28 solar panels this past May. The problem with green energy this time of year is when the day length is low and there is little to no sun, this crap doesn’t help squat. And yet, our govt geniuses think alternative energy is going to save the world. BS

It almost sounds like the new “Inflation Reduction Act” could be Biden’s “Read My Lips” moment. Of course, the DNC Mouthpieces (aka the LSM) will never admit to such gaslighting from the “Greatest President since Obama”.

Then again, George Bush in his current state is STILL more lucid than Brandon.
