Top Republican Pollsters Say ‘Don’t Be Fooled, Trump Strong As Ever’
American Lookout ^ | December 24, 2022 | Mike LaChance

If you listen to the liberal media, you would probably think that Trump is out, and down for the count.

Two top Republican pollsters are saying this is flatly untrue.

This isn’t a knock at Ron DeSantis or any other Republican, just a glimpse of where things are right now.

The Washington Examiner reports:

Don’t be fooled, Trump ‘strong as ever,’ say top pollsters

You’ve seen the polls, in Secrets and elsewhere, touting the emergence of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and others challenging former President Donald Trump, the only Republican who has announced a bid for the 2024 GOP primary so far.

They come at a time when the former president is under fire in many corners but still standing and punching back.

Now two of the nation’s leading Republican pollsters who have strong ties to Trump are explaining why he remains “as strong as ever” to take the nomination and beat President Joe Biden.

John and Jim McLaughlin, who run McLaughlin & Associates, recently released their poll that shows the former president ahead of DeSantis 48%-23%, just as popular as he was on Election Day last month, and leading Biden 48%-45%.

Here at Secrets, we write a lot about polls and have highlighted many about the DeSantis surge, especially after his blockbuster reelection last month. While it’s still over a year before the first caucus or primary, they all give a suggestion for how the candidates are doing among voters but shouldn’t be taken as the last word.

What’s different about the McLaughlin poll, John McLaughlin told us, is that it is tougher with the sample it uses. It tries to whittle down its sample to those most likely to vote instead of a bigger vat that may include some who’ve never voted.

McLaughlin tries to stay away from anti-Trump bias in many media polls. And finally, it replicates the Democrat-to-Republican percentage of more recent elections.

The 2024 election is a long way off and things could change at any time.

We are all just going to have to wait and see.

The BIG MISTAKE the NeverTrumpers made was piling on him after the November elections.

But piling on is what they do, and they’re unable to control it.

They did the same when he first called for a Wall. If I had been advising any of the other candidates - I would have told to say something like:
“Yes, Trump does embellish a bit, but control of the Southern Border is a legitimate issue, and does need to happen, if this country is to survive.”, and then maybe state a credible plan to accomplish that.

Instead, they simply called him a Racist, and that was it.

That’s not the way to sever the bond between the base and Trump.

And they did the same here...for a short time I was open to DeSantis, but then I saw who I’d be sharing the bed with. No thanks. If Trump is on the ticket next year, he gets my vote, hands down.

That’s nice. What I’ve noticed is that his political senses — razor-sharp 8 years ago — seem to have left him.

Either that, or he’s surrounded by people determined to bring him down.

Whether or not that translates into poll numbers I dunno, I trust no polls. But I do trust my gut.

My, that reads just like what various good thinkers do on FR if the behavior footprint of a certain ethnicity is commented upon critically.

Trump can likely get nominated but he cannot win over enough voters to return to the White House. He’s destroyed himself

Love 45’s embrace of Sun Tsu.

Will say it again, Trump’s knowledge of history, wars, generals, strategy is in the upper 3%.

“but control of the Southern Border is a legitimate issue, and does need to happen, if this country is to survive.”

The problem was the big donors did not agree and all the other candidates wanted the big donor money and needed the big donor money to stay in politics.

His execution of what he’s learned in these matters is in the bottom 3%.

Don’t get all mad at me. Just debate the point.

You’ve been jumping on anyone with an opposing viewpoint.

Never Trumpers also made it possible for most of us to sit out elections if a RINO is put up.

I’ll NEVER ‘hold my nose’ and vote for a RINO again. Never. And that’s how many of us feel.

If Romney or someone like him runs I’d vote for the democrat. Or not vote. Or write in a name. Or stay home. I WILL NEVER vote for an establishment Republican for President again.

The forthcoming primaries for the GOP POTUS nom will be highly interesting.

I, for one will vote for whomever wins the nom, and I'll try to get as many Citizens as I can to vote for that nom.

That said, I would be surprised if it's DJT.

In my circle of GOP fam, friends, and acquaintances, (over a dozen so far and many more to privately poll) previous Trump voters all, no one, not one, wants Trump to even stay in the race. "I just want him to go away" is the most common comment.

Trump has been unfairly set upon by Dems, deep-staters, and RINOs, that's clear.

That said, Trump was, and still is his own worst enemy. He has chosen to make himself politically toxic, and it didn't have to be that way.

The petulance, name calling, picking fights with nobodies, putting people on the defensive, the lack of tact (I'll say it again, the lack of tack) all conspire to erase the major accomplishments in the public's mind.

The Dems will run against Trump, no matter who the opponent, for ever and ever. And, while spirited debate is a good and healthy thing, nasty political infighting will sink us, and the Dems know it.
