If Elizabeth I had really been male her father, Henry VIII wouldn’t have kept wife chopping in search of a son.

. BTW she was supposed to have been a nice looking Princess before smallpox scarred her badly c. Age 20. Hence the heavy makeup thereafter. Happily for England although the pox took her looks it did’t take her wits not her guts!

As PfSM said, the Bisely Boy -- that was sufficiently robust folklore that it showed up in National Geographic, probably read it in "This England", one of their coffeetable compilations.
