The police chief in Tampa, Florida, resigned Monday after using her position to escape a ticket during a traffic stop involving a golf cart driven by her husband. …. During that stop — which was recorded on video by the deputy's body camera — O'Connor identified herself as the Tampa chief, flashed her badge and said, "I'm hoping you will let us go tonight." … f The deputy issued only a verbal warning instead of a citation. The golf cart did not have a license tag, a requirement for when such vehicles are driven on public streets. O'Connor's husband, Keith, said they had just come from a restaurant and didn't usually drive the cart on streets. …

I wonder if this is comparable to Paul Pelosi flashing his police organization donor card. Nah.

I have been a cop for about 20 years. I have made no secret of it around here. These days I’m usually engaged in verbal sparring with the Ever-Trumpers so I don’t get much time to talk shop. This was fun.

I’ve never met a cop who when pulled over for speeding or other minor violations would not identify himself as a cop with the expectation of betting let off.

I used to know a well-placed federal cop who knew most of the police/sheriffs in a three-state area. When he traveled he would call them up and tell them when he was going to be in their area and then would drive 100+ mph to his destination.

What if the police officer pulls over a Colonel in the Army? Who is the “civilian” there?

In other words, she was a bad hire as Police Chief.

Just proves how good of a cop you have to be if there is a woman in the race for Chief.

The former Tampa PD Chief, now the Tampa Mayor, is a lesbian. No real surprise a woman was hired for the position. Bet a woman won’t be the next Tampa Police Chief unless she walks on water.

Policemen calling the public “civilians” is to me a telltale sign of the wrong attitude.

That is a BIG pet peeve of mine as well.

Where I live you can't swing a stick without hitting somebody from the FBI or DHS and too many of them talk about the "civilians." Every time I hear that I correct them and tell them they are civilian law enforcement and not military. Some are accepting of what I say but many of the newer ones look at me like I am an enemy. Those are the dangerous ones who should never be handed a badge and a firearm.

“This was fun.”

I am curious as to your “Mustang Sucks” comment. I am a sucker for car talk.

Honestly I am surprised about this, in the UK, it’s pretty routine for off duty police officers to end up getting speeding fines and court summons for breaking traffic laws. They could find themselves in very deep shit for trying to get out of it by saying they are a cop and also simply for failing to report themselves to the professional standards department when they have to own up to a minor offence like speeding.

It is better for them to just take the fine, they wouldn’t get kicked out for minor offences unless it is a type of offence that might be considered as professional misconduct, and trying to evade a fine or failing to report it afterwards would be seen as that.

In the UK, police typically call non police “MOPS” (members of the public), it’s got a slightly derogatory connotation about it but it is probably an accurate and matter of fact label. A lot of cops are ex military and probably wouldn’t care for non ex military cops using tha term when referring to non police.

There must be some reason you don’t like Mustangs.
