COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The suspect accused of entering a Colorado gay nightclub clad in body armor and opening fire with an AR-15-style rifle, killing five people and wounding 17 others, was formally charged with hate crimes as well as murder on Tuesday.

Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, sat upright in a chair during the hearing and appeared alert. In an earlier court appearance just a few days after the shooting, the defendant’s head and face were covered with bruises and Aldrich had to be prompted by attorneys to respond to questions from a judge.

Aldrich had been held on hate crime charges but prosecutors had said previously they weren’t sure if those counts would stick because they needed to assess if there was adequate evidence to show it was a bias motivated crime.

Aldrich, who is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns according to defense court filings, was arrested at the club by police. They have not entered a plea or spoken about the events.

Isn’t the shooter gay? If so, can a person from an aggressived group commit a hate crime against that same aggressived group and have it labeled a hate crime? What kind of legal gobbledygook and mental gymnastics are involved there?

Regardless, hate crimes are a racist construct. A crime victim should see an equal application of justice. The fact that I’m normal shouldn’t be considered a lesser offense or cushion for the criminal.

In the new world order murdering straight, white people (especially men) isn’t hateful. Hence it’s not a hate crime. Make sense??

Why aren’t looting and burning down Walmarts or murdering police officers considered “hate crimes.” Asking for a friend.

a fag charged with hate crimes against fags? Makes a lot of sense... if you want to “not let a crisis go to waste” and use it to demonize normal americans.

I thought most of those shot were straight guests there for a birthday party.

In that case it should be a hate crime.

"Or what if “they” killed the other trannies because their advances were rejected?

More like he killed the other trannies because they rejected his advances.

If I get murdered I hope the person doesn’t have hate in his heart!

According to AP, that homosexual bar is a “sanctuary” for city homosexuals. Since they’re evil, they take sanctuary in evil places.

When prosecutor figures that out, he’ll drop the hate charge.

“Hate crime” aka/”disapproved thought crime” seems somewhat akin to the liberal logic that created all the other sexes after man and woman.

Will Jared Polecat support the death penalty as a penalty enhancement or will life in prison suffice?
