Many kids are struggling. Is special education the answer?

The COVID-19 pandemic sent Heidi Whitney’s daughter into a tailspin.

Suddenly the San Diego middle schooler was sleeping all day and awake all night. When in-person classes resumed, she was so anxious at times that she begged to come home early, telling the nurse her stomach hurt.

Whitney tried to keep her daughter in class. But the teen’s desperate bids to get out of school escalated. Ultimately, she was hospitalized in a psychiatric ward, failed “pretty much everything” at school and was diagnosed with depression and ADHD.

As she started high school this fall, she was deemed eligible for special education services, because her disorders interfered with her ability to learn, but school officials said it was a close call. It was hard to know how much her symptoms were chronic or the result of mental health issues brought on by the pandemic, they said.

“They put my kid in a gray area,” said Whitney, a paralegal.

Schools contending with soaring student mental health needs and other challenges have been struggling to determine just how much the pandemic is to blame. Are the challenges the sign of a disability that will impair a student’s learning long term, or something more temporary?

And no doubt, the vast majority of them will someday just coincidentally vote for the next generations version of Bidung.

Definitely. I think small group homeschooling would be great for many kids and parents.
Just make sure the kids get their social growth as well. (Sports, play time, etc.)

Yup. Gotta have the social time too, that is important. A relative homeschooled her kids way out in the middle of nowhere, and this year was one of the kids first year of Bible college, and she told a friend she made at the college “I’ve basically been isolated at home for 3 years” which was true, being gmthat they lived so remote, but she seems to be fitting in well at college and loving it, but it took awhile for her to open up to strangers, ie classmates.

Glad to hear she’s doing well. It’s often bad when someone like her goes to a big state university. (Not always, but often)
Peer pressure and temptation to someone that’s never faced it before is very dangerous. Worse so for females in my opinion.

The Scamdemic planners take delight in the torture and torment of children.

Next up forced toxic injections per the CDC to attend school. Save your kids and DO NOT COMPLY!

This was absurd.

And it'll only get worse.

Because any child that is unique, special, or off the beaten path will get chewed up and spit out by The System. Why? Because by definition, an assembly line can't handle "defects."

Then there is bullying...the bully is protected, and any child who defends him/herself is brought up on charges. The parent of the bully is likely a "peaked in high school" loser.

Then there are the children who really ARE different, and the System will crush them up use them as fuel for the Agenda. For example, a very small percentage of children have gender-based medical conditions. They need support, ACTUAL support. The System will use that child and crush his/her soul, and create a political movement for greater cash via taxes. Meanwhile, that child with a legitimate condition is in the gutter, ridiculed by society and crying in the arms of parents who thought their tax dollars were supposed to help guard against this tragedy

And we're surprised by a rise in depression?

And the homeschoolers are supposed to be the freaks? Well, prepare for the Return of the Jedi...as parents take back their children and abandon schools, a generation of young and really peeved Deplorables is in its way.

Yes, agreed, very much so. All we can really do is prepare them spiritually the best we can, and pray pray pray that they withstand the peer pressure. I,was a,dope- I have into peer pressure bad- but she seems to be pretty solid spiritually, and serious about obeying the lord, so hopefully she remains so.

[[as parents take back their children and abandon schools]]

I hope you are right. I think parents are getting fed up with being falsely labeled as “domestic terrorists” by the government and msm for simply objecting to the vile sexual immoralities being taught in school s today. I hope they take their kids out en mass

I went to public school, and went a little wild post high school, but have always been a non risk averse guy.

It was probably a good decision when I qualified for PJ Indoc to stick with my nerd job.
I have many scars and stories which confirm my stupidity.
😁

What we need is a complete overhaul of the government school system, it is failing and getting worse.

My good FRiend, it IS happening.

HSing families grew from 6% of total families pre-pandemic to 11% this year.

While that may not seem like much, it has caused a ripple effect. Many school districts' funding formulas are based on enrolled headcount. They're now whining about there not being enough money to find indoctrination, erm, education.

Meanwhile, the makeup of homeschoolers isn't just "crazy, gun nut religious fanatics." There are people of all races, creeds, etc. homeschooling today, but what's in common is a fundamental distrust of the Beast and a return of the family as the primary nuclear unit of society.

Then this one should make the pot boil over...

Btw, this is why I'm not all-in on arming teachers. It's great on paper, until you realize that a committee of statists like HER will decide who packs heat. That armed Antifa member & teacher will likely shoot a Deplorable child claiming "I was in fear of the life of the other students." And the Union will get the teacher off the hook.

Between the effects of the lockdowns and the “woke” and gender bending crap being taught to our kids, we have lost an entire generation. This generation of kids be emotionally crippled, barely literate and gender confused their whole lives.

No, as the husband of a special educator and former school administrator. The vast majority of kids on special education IEPs lack parenting that promotes the ethic and discipline required to be even a marginally successful student.
