In November the EU proposed to give impoverished Ukraine — with over 80% of its nation without electricity, among other necessities — $18.6 billion in critical humanitarian aid, including support for energy and healthcare facilities.
But Hungary has vetoed the transfer of the critical aid package.
Budapest has stood out as the only member of the 27 country organization to block the EU package, with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban having effective veto power because EU budget rules require the unanimous approval of all 27 member countries.
American and European officials have been noting Orban's "persistent pattern" of obstructionism in aid to Ukraine, with some saying the East European state is even at risk of losing its NATO membership.

Hungarians are the third largest minority in Ukraine and its my understanding the region they live in has suffered the highest percentage of casualties to date.
They’re largely Catholic, correct?
“Hungary Blocks $18 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine, Puts NATO Status at Risk”
“In November the EU proposed...”
So the ‘aid’ is EU, but the article mentions NATO. What does NATO have to do with EU ‘aid’ to Ukraine?
Hungry gets it. Why doesn’t Poland?
The Biden and Soros worshipers,A/K/A members of the worship George Soros and Lying Joe Biden church will be royally ticked off.
Good point.
Well, that's just dumb because there is no mechanism in NATO for booting a member state.
Ukraine isn’t in NATO, so good on Hungary.
Good for them!
EU stepping on Hungary’s neck via “vote for aid or no NATO for you”.
Freedom sure looks different now then when I was a kid…
Good, I hope we are in the early stages of the EU (and NATO) breaking apart.
“Galeotti said Orban’s decision to “hold the Ukrainian aid deal to ransom” is his response to EU recovery funds that are being blocked from going to Budapest over his “democratic backsliding.””
Note that this article doesn’t bother to define ‘democratic backsliding’.
I’ll help here. Hungary has elections, and elections that are MUCH CLEANER than those in the US. The problem with Hungary is not its democracy ‘backsliding’, it is the policies of the winning side, as in Orban. People like him and his party are simply NOT PERMITTED to run EU countries, even if their voters want them.
The two major issues with Orban is that he won’t open his borders to migrants (even Europe finally admits they’re not ‘refugees’, but instead migrants - meaning settlers or colonializers). That’s the first issue - Orban wants to keep control of his borders. Second issue is that he won’t allow pedophile grooming of little kids, sex changes, etc. The EU either believes that kids should be fair game for pedophiles and mutilators, or they are doing a great job of giving that impression.
With these two MAJOR ISSUES, the EU has deprived Hungary of $7.5B of Coronavirus money, and will likely sanction them further. So now Hungary is playing ball and is wisely not mentioning the above.
Leave NATO.
It must be referring to the EU because you would have to do something REALLY big, like violate the UN Charter or NATO treaty to get kicked out of NATO. Even going Communist probably wouldn’t do it. The other nations would wait it out until a regime more consistent with Western values came back to power.
if you spam me again, I will report you for abuse. Thanks.
It seems inevitable.
Time for a coordinated media campaign against Orban, EU sanctions, followed by color-revolution.
There is. The Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, Article 60, covers the termination or suspension of a treaty in the event of its breach.
That's how they do business.
Winning is not becoming a vassal state to Tsar Putin. The Ukrainians did that by the end or March 2022
