Eight in ten employees at the CDC are working from home, per a FOIA request Experts fear this will leave the organization unable to learn from mistakes It comes after agency revealed it would sack 3,000 people hired to fight Covid

Most employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are still working from home.

The federal health agency, responding to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request said 80 percent of staff were still partially or fully working from home.

Dr Stephen Cochi, who worked at the CDC for four decades before retiring this year, warned remote work was making it 'almost impossible to get anything done'.

It comes as the agency lays off 3,000 scientists, comms experts and nurses that were recruited to help fight Covid.

When Covid struck the CDC signaled to all Americans who were in non-essential work to start working from home on March 18, 2020.

It has not since released updated guidance telling people that they should return to the office.

In August this year the agency cut the quarantine period for Covid patients from 10 to five days, saying this would bolster office returns. Four months later, it is still yet to rollback its own teleworking plans.

Given their track record over the past couple years, maybe not a bad thing...

“....almost impossible to get anything done’ with no-one in the office”

That’s a GOOD thing isn’t it?

Eliminate the CDC, FDA, DoE, DoE, BATFE, FBI, DHS, TSA, etc.

Feel free to add more.

They are government employees and are a privileged elite who live high off the hog with minimal (and frequently no) actual work done. 80% of federal employees (at least at the various “headquarters” levels) are NOT ESSENTIAL and could easily be terminated with no adverse effect.

What do you expect with the public union parasites! It’s the perfect gig! Penalize them monetarily, and the scumbags will come back to work.

How much are we paying these lazy bums to do pretend work from home? I figure minimum of 100-150 thousand a year to sit in front of their laptop in their pajamas 2 hours per day

They Do some zoom chats. Write up and file useless reports, printed in full colors. Make a phone call or two. No wonder the CDC is an effed agency. And is affirmative action hiring on steroids, since its offices are in Atlanta

This is good in two ways. 1.) If they can’t get any work done, then they are not abusing our rights. 2.) It demonstrates the required employee and budget cuts: 80%. (Although I would rather see the CDC completely shuttered.)

If there weren't other people in the office talking incessantly on the phone, gossiping at each other's desks, cursing at their computers and a hundred other distracting things, I could probably get a month's worth of work done in a week.

They should make the government employees submit a paper every two weeks outlining to the taxpayers what they’ve done to deserve a paycheck and make them hand the papers in at the office.
