To be completely fair, the pandemic and the crack cocaine epidemic, both created by Republican administrations, are chiefly responsible for trans-generational illiteracy. At this point the only solution, according to the experts, lies in higher wages for school superintendents, particularly in areas where minorities comprise the majority.
Niskayuna was the upgrade area, kinda like the Beverly Hills of Schenectady. We had to send our son to the Catholic School because they had the advance courses that the Public school didn’t. I believe learning is best served by the bringing up of the child with good parental guidance and family values. Its unfortunate that many lack it, which results in the lack of foresight, and the rejection of learning. You can give parents vouches, and you will have success, but you will still have to deal with the same public school problems in regard to learning and discipline. Just sending students out of their area doesn’t change the student 100% unless there is a good foundation to build on. I lived in 12309 and substituted in the area. I thought I could return to Middle school education, nope, agrrrrrrr. Chose retirement in FLa..

I assume white and Asian students were similarly affected by the pandemic as blacks. Yet subject after subject, blacks lag behind these two in their scores. Are they going to blame it on “racist” tests?
Your answer reminds me of something one of my daughters (now 41) told me as a junior in high school.
I asked her about being ready to pass the VA state test as a senior. She replied that they had been pre-tested on it in 8th grade and she had passed it then. She said it was so simple. So, she wasn’t really worried about it now.
