Twenty-four hours ahead of a must-win World Cup group stage match against Iran following two draws, U.S. men’s national team coach Gregg Berhalter and team captain Tyler Adams had to have expected a line of tough questions, but it’s hard to imagine that they thought this is how things would go on Monday.
Berhalter and Adams were hit with an intense line of questioning regarding systemic racism in the United States, strict visa rules in place against Iranian citizens and what an American fleet is doing in the Persian Gulf, among other things.
These questions all came from journalists from Iran in the wake of the U.S. Soccer Federation removing the emblem of the Islamic Republic from the Iranian flag in social media posts about the upcoming match as a way to support protests against the country’s government.“Second of all, are you OK to be representing your country that has so much discrimination against Black people in its own borders?” the reporter asked.
Adams’ response received much fanfare on social media as he apologized for his mispronunciation, spoke of the importance of social progress and thanked the reporter for educating him on the pronunciation.
However, by the end of the questioning barrage, which other reporters did apparently try to break up with questions about the upcoming game, the frustrations began to mount, with Berhalter eventually saying, "I don't know enough about politics, I'm a soccer coach," in response to a question about visas.

I would have said, since I’m 25% Jewish, I’m a Jew I don’t care if any of your MF’ers get into the USA and with respect to our Navy, they go wherever they want to go.
Instead of apologizing throw that crap back in their faces.
“I’m a soccer coach” should have been his answer to every ‘political’ question.
What a tough game, and I’m so pleased that we pulled out the win. That second goal was, in my mind, not offside so should’ve counted. It’s hard to believe that they can review fouls but won’t review scoring opportunities. Those last 15-20 minutes I was very on edge. We’ve had so many close games, and I was hoping this time it would be different. Thank goodness, it was. Go USA!!
Absolutely agree.
Another goal!!! That is TWO in 270+ minutes! Go Rainbows!🌈
“It’s hard to believe that they can review fouls but won’t review scoring opportunities.”
They did review the goal that got disallowed, the decision came down quickly so the didn’t show the video until half time, his knee was offside :)
.“Second of all, are you OK to be representing your country that has so much discrimination against Black people in its own borders?” the reporter asked.
“We don’t hang homos,” he should have said.
I’m not racist. I hate head-choppers regardless of race or origin. If they are white, black, brown, yellow... doesn’t matter. I want them all out of my country.

We need to put Trump in charge of the US Soccer Association. His first task: to make “Soccer” the official name of this lame “sport”. Second, profusely apologize that the person who whooped their asses has a first name of Christian, then tell them to carry on with their real national sport of chopping heads off and basically go pound sand. Then I’d watch soccer.
Thank you, I didn’t watch the halftime report.
This is a very young team, and I will remind others that we didn’t even qualify for the World Cup 4 years ago. I won’t be surprised if we don’t make it out of the knock out stage, but I’m glad we are there at all.
Systemic racism - Are you blind? How many dark pigmentation skin do you see on our squad? Btw, Jim Crow laws have been zapped well before your dad’s sperm that made you was generated.
Persian Gulf ships are the result of the middle-east male Muslims that refuse to stop copulating with goats and camels.
Third question just defys reasoning.
Any questions about the game?
Nuke Iran
Non-binarism sure makes for a more pleasurable world. There is “nothing wrong with that”! At least that is what tonight’s soccer celebrants are saying.....
If creepy Joe fired a nuke, it would misfire right into New York City.
