Manchin’s side deal on brink as GOP seeks his 2024 ouster

Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-W.Va.) side deal with Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to enact permitting reform before the end of the year is on life support as Republicans look to deprive the lawmaker of a major victory that could aid his potential 2024 reelection.

Manchin is in discussions with GOP colleagues about striking a deal on permitting reform in the lame-duck session, but Republicans say it faces an uphill path as they view his West Virginia Senate seat as a top pickup opportunity in the next election.

“It’s a heavy lift but we’re still exchanging ideas,” said Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), one of the lead Republican negotiators on permitting reform.

Passing permitting reform legislation before January, or even next year, may depend on whether Manchin runs for a fourth term. Former President Trump won West Virginia with 68.6 percent of the vote two years ago.

Joe can be bought, just like the Big Guy. He really isn’t very bright, just like Uncle Joe. He has realized he can live a wildly better life in politics than he ever could in the real world.

He should be a useful tool over the next few years, just like he has been in the past. He will go to the highest bidder.....always has, always will. Just like Brandon.

If these two Joe’s ever had any real principles, they have long been eroded in Washington. where the money waters smooth over any bedrock.

Actually, Joe Biden as always been an asshole. I can’t say the same either way about Country Roads Joe

Why do we still have lame duck sessions of Congress?

So they can pass laws after they have been kicked out of office, and then go take lobbyist jobs on K Street?

I don’t respect any pubbie strategist with the first name of “Ford.”

He’s probably wearing a cardigan sweater.

So Schumer didn’t hold up his end of the “deal”.
It’s the fault of the GOP.
Got it.

For the next two years he can be very useful though.

I doubt it.

He could have been useful if he had switched parties two years ago and given Republicans control of the Senate. In exchange, he could probably have cut a deal with McConnell to support his re-election in the Republican primary in 2024. He would have been a left-wing liberal RINO, but McConnell seems to like those.

Now he has nothing to offer and nothing to gain. He is likely to be primaried out by the democrats in 2024, because they all hate him now. If he manages to make it through the primary he will lose in the general election, because the 60% of West Virginia voters who voted for Trump in 2020 also hate him now.

He won't even be able to get a talking head job on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc., because the media all hate him now.

I like your optimism, but you sound like the people that tried to tell me Murkowski was going to lose.
I never had any doubt she would win. Alaska is purple at best anymore.

Manchin made a deal with the Devil and his constituents will be paying for it especially those in the coal mining industry. By 2024 his state will be an economic ruin due to Biden policies and I hope West Virginians remember who sold them out.

Manchin caving on build back better which overnight morphed into the Inflation act is 100% his fault. If they don’t drive a stake through his heart on that issue, I give up. That fake bill was the green new deal with a fake name gave the Democrats a significant tool to gaslight their voters this fall it was all smoke and mirrors, but it got a lot of democrats to the polls. Machin alone caved on this issue to allow it.

The GOP needs to start recruiting now for the 2024 election. The quality of the candidates was the problem this year. There are 23 Dems up for election in 2024 and only 10 Republicans. There is an opportunity for big gains if we do it right.

Do not let this man Manchin off the hook. He is just as responsible as Biden, Schumer, Pelosi and all the other America haters who are working to destroy our wonderful country. Manchin must lose.

When was the last time the Assistant Democrats did something that lead to big gains?

One must conclude the answer is:
This benefits no one but the congress critters.
Should they find anything which might benefit WTP,
be assured they will ignore it or amend it by using the
"mandate" clause.

We lived in WV during the time that man in co authored the most aggressive anti 2A legislation under Obama. However WV and lots of Freepers want this guy to go R.
how is trumps pal jimmy j?
As much as we tried, it is generationally hard to change WV.. they would give up their guns before becoming a part of a Constitutional Republic. I was there when they voted to do that. Still shocked the dems didn’t keep their foot on the gas.

They should go ahead and pass the permitting legislation, it’s not going to make any difference to Manchin’s chances in 2024, and it’s needed (and a poke in the eye to the enviro-nazis).

Manchin is a dead man walking in WV. He got less than 50% of the vote in 2018, and there are zero Republicans holding statewide office in WV aside from Manchin. The miners won’t even consider voting for a Dem no matter what their union leaders say. The state is deep ruby red with Trump beating Biden by 40 points in 2020.

Manchin is a goner in 2024.

If Walker wins the Georgia runoff, Manchin could flip and thus flip the Senate.

If he does not do so, go hard at him and take him out in 2024. Red states should not have Blue Senators. How many MAGA Republican senators are there from Blue States? 0.

That’s how many of the reverse there need to be....Manchin, Tester, the 2 from Arizona, the 2 from Georgia, Manchin, etc. That’s 7 right there.
