China may have ‘passed the point of no return’ as Covid infections soar
CNBC ^

In the last few days, the mainland China daily Covid case count has climbed to around or more than 28,000 — near levels seen in April during a stringent lockdown in Shanghai, according to CNBC calculations of Wind Information data.

“China might have already passed the point of no return, as it’s unlikely to achieve zero Covid again without another Shanghai-style hard lockdown,” Macquarie’s Chief China Economist Larry Hu said in a report Tuesday.

In GDP terms, nearly 20% of China’s economy was negatively affected by Covid controls as of Monday, close to the high of 21.2% recorded in mid-April during Shanghai’s lockdown, Nomura’s Chief China Economist Ting Lu said, citing the firm’s model.

We shouldn’t take the ChiComs’ word for anything, including continuing CoupFlu in the PRC.

I would suggest there is no parade.

Rather, there is bureaucratic panic on a grand scale. Those in charge simply do not know what to do other than the stringent measure of prolonged lock downs.

I’ve seen many videos in different cities where the people are forbidden to leave homes. The videos all depict very large numbers of enforcers in white plastic suits that have distinctive blue trim. I am reminded of the white clad troops of Darth Vader in Star Wars.

Does the procedure work? Perhaps not

Shanghai was locked down completely for weeks, After opening there is now an outbreak and I think fear of more lockdown. I can’t imagine the costs and consequences of locking down a city of 28 million people for such a prolonged period.

One must wonder, what do the bureaucrats know and fear?

Appears to be by design. China has to reduce its population and has been trying to do that for years. Maybe they have found a natural method so the CCP will not have to take the blame.

I’ll jump into the conspiracy world. Maybe they are using covid to cover for culling out the dissidents.

China hasn’t released GDP numbers for three straight quarters.
Many think the Bank of China is in deep trouble.
The results, if true, would propagate around the world with serious consequences.
There’s also supposed issues with Bank of England, Credit Suisse, and Deutsche Bank.
Maybe someone here with more knowledge can chime in.

I won’t claim more or better knowledge but.....

I have concluded that with the massive repeated flooding of the Yangtze River and tributaries, the exit of many large and smaller international companies, the confiscation of Alibaba and Jack Ma, the total wipeout of the real-estate and property development markets, and the numerous lockdowns of tens of millions of people, the CCP is in trouble.

I have seen no good China news

It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if China lost 5 million of its citizens to covid.

China's population numbers are inflated at least 10%, for political corruption reasons. If they wanted to correct that without losing face, they could say 20 million Chinese disappeared from the Wuhan Lab Flu.

It's well known that centralized planning is a disaster every time it's tried, but the reasons behind that are less well known. One of the biggest contributors is fake centralized data collection. If local data sources have any incentive at all to lie about their data, they will.

Imagine how incredibly wonderful the world would be if lies were the exception rather than the rule. Politics is almost 100% lies, big lies that often get people killed. There are never any penalties, except when FIB thugs get lied to.

The point of no return is the estimated number of infections at which you can no longer stop the rapid spread of virus. COVID like many other viruses spreads slowly at first but eventually you reach a point where there are so many people spreading the disease that it increases logarithmically and overwhelms a healthcare system.

The problem with COVID is that it constantly mutates to bypass vaccine and natural immunity. This is not a big deal if the new variants are basically innocuous with low mortality. Since this is an engineered virus, it’s evolution is a bit unpredictable and there is a definite possibility of a mutation in the future that could cause much higher mortality and long term health problems in otherwise healthy people.

I don’t know what the answer is to solving the COVID dilemma but doing absolutely nothing and ignoring it, is really tempting fate.

I’ve read Chinese are heavy smokers, so that would explain the high mortality rates.

Tell me one reason that China would worry about 20% of their population dying off. Why would we worry about it in the US? I mean officially.

The government no longer exists to serve the people, the people exist to serve the government.
