It’s Costing Peanuts for the US to Defeat Russia
CEPA ^ | 18-NOV-2022 | Timothy Ash

Posted on 11/19/2022 10:14:44 AM PST by SpeedyInTexas

The Ukrainian armed forces have already killed or wounded upwards of 100,000 Russian troops, half its original fighting force; there have been almost 8,000 confirmed losses of armored vehicles including thousands of tanks, thousands of APCs, artillery pieces, hundreds of fixed and rotary wing aircraft, and numerous naval vessels. US spending of 5.6% of its defense budget to destroy nearly half of Russia’s conventional military capability seems like an absolutely incredible investment. If we divide out the US defense budget to the threats it faces, Russia would perhaps be of the order of $100bn-150bn in spend-to-threat. So spending just $40bn a year, erodes a threat value of $100-150bn, a two-to-three time return.

The US military might reasonably wish Russia to continue deploying military forces for Ukraine to destroy.

...

In conclusion, on so many levels, continued US support for Ukraine is a no-brainer from a bang for buck perspective. Ukraine is no Vietnam or Afghanistan for the US, but it is exactly that for Russia. A Russia continually mired in a war it cannot win is a huge strategic win for the US.

Why would anyone object to that?

We should give Russia democrats to staff their gulags, and in return they can give us propane for our cookouts.

Play the long game against the real enemy.

Strength only has value insofar as what is used for.

Strength wielded by the America of my father or grandfather’s generation would be one thing.

Now? Half of the country can’t agree as to where life begins or what a woman is. The national government is rife with institutional bureaucrats that despise traditional values and the Christian religion, and openly fantasize about putting Republicans and Trump supporters into gulags.

What value Strength, when wielded by such a hideous beast?

The same Joint Chief of Staff General Mark ‘Raytheon’ Milley that predicted that Kyiv could fall within 72 hours if Russia decides to invade Ukraine.....

The same Joint Chief of Staff General Mark ‘Raytheon’ Milley that just said that a victory by Ukraine may not be achieved militarily.....

Holy shat, but he on top those Russian numbers......my ass.

That is such a good deal, only a million dollars per kill. Maybe if we just offer Russian soldiers the million dollars outright to defect to the US. Just think of all those white boys to offset the brown boys coming over the southern border.

Do you really believe that letting Russia erase the Ukrainian nation from the face of the Earth is a more moral option? Because that’s what Russia intends to do.

Why is our country spending anything at all?

Is the United States at war with Russia?

Ukraine is not a NATO member. America has no Treaty obligation to defend the Ukraine.

And, what is Ukraine getting — death, a failing electric grid and shrinking country.

Russia is fully responsible for this. Ukraine has the right to defend itself against the Russian aggression. Despotic imperialism is NOT a conservative value.

What is wrong with Russians? A high percentage of those in the upper Midwest, Wisconsin, Minnesota, ND, Iowa are Russian ancestors...or Ukraine if you want to be PC. My family came from Russia, now land claimed as Ukraine, in the 1860’s -90’s

Note that total aid is far more. Way back in May 20, 2022 the NY Times wrote, Four Ways to Understand the $54 Billion in U.S. Spending on Ukraine [as of May 20: + in July 2022 an additional $1.7 billion in aid to Ukraine + On July 12 Democrats Urge New $650 Billion IMF Aid on Ukraine]

The success of American made weapons also increase export sales and generates more employment and money for Americans.

Poland has ordered more than 200 HIMARS systems. That will generate jobs in America where the systems are built.

What about the immorality of using Ukraine as a patsy for US interests while destroying their country and killing off their people?

You apparently missed the part about Ukrainians wanting to be free and not suffering the tyranny dished out by the Russians. Ukraine is not a patsy for US interests, and the people destroying their country and killing their people are Russian army soldiers working for Putin.

Helping Ukrainians defend themselves against murder, rape, pillaging, and enslavement is a good thing to do. Wouldn't you help your neighbor fend off attackers if you could?
