I truly believe in nature over nurture. I wish sometimes I could sit and discuss what in retrospect turned out to be a 4 subject longitudinal study in development biology and culture.
Nurture trumps nature. Most parents like to believe otherwise because we can’t live with ourselves if we think we messed up in some way.
But, we parents DO mess up sometimes, even when our intentions are good, whether we want to acknowledge those slipups or not.
Environment is the most important factor.
Case in point: All those confused kids who think they’re the opposite sex weren’t born thinking that way. Their environment did that to them. Their schools, social media, and sometimes their own parents confused them.
