Police in Moscow, Idaho, tried to calm growing community concerns Wednesday about the killings of four University of Idaho students – even as police said they did not have a suspect in custody and declined to provide the public further information.
“We hear you, and we understand your fears,” the Moscow Police Department said in a news release. “We want you to know that we, like you, have been devastated and distressed by these young lives that were cut short needlessly.
“We determined early in the investigation that we do not believe there is an ongoing threat for community members. Evidence indicates that this was a targeted attack.”
That evidence has not been shared with the public, and police said they have shared everything they can without compromising the investigation. Police also said they hope to have more information Wednesday, and a press conference is scheduled for the afternoon.
The statement comes days after the four college students were found dead in an off-campus residence. No weapons have been found but police said preliminary information led them to believe an “edged weapon” like a knife was used in the quadruple homicide.
he killings and lack of information have rankled Moscow, a 25,000-strong city nestled on the Idaho-Washington border. Residents there are anxious and are “getting out of Dodge,” Latah County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Mikolajczyk told the Idaho Statesman.
The father of one of the victims issued a statement Wednesday calling on police to release further information about the killings.
“There is a lack of information from the University of Idaho and the local police, which only fuels false rumors and innuendo in the press and social media,” Jim Chapin, the father of Ethan Chapin, said in the statement...

No motive.
No Suspect.
And this:
"Moscow police do not believe there is an ongoing community risk based on information gathered during the preliminary investigation, however, we ask our employees to be empathetic, flexible and to work with our students who desire to return home to spend time with their families. We do not know the investigation timeline, but we will continue to communicate to campus as we learn more.”
So Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Chucky, or the dude from the Scream movies is butchering college coeds and we're told, "Don't worry about it."
Seriously?
Why do I imagine perpetrators with dark skins and think the cops know it but are being gutless as every police agency is when dealing with a black faced killer,
They don’t release information with details about the crime as well as who the suspects might be particularly when the nature of the crime indicates very specific things or people to search for. This is done for a number of reasons, including not scaring away any suspects, as well as assisting in interrogation and prosecution.
I would say that the fact that they aren’t saying much, despite how panicked the populace is, indicates they are really on to something or someone.
If they were completely lost and baffled, I believe they would put more information out there in order to generate leads.
I am curious about the people that are always blurred out in that one group photo. Could be as simple as that with some form of love triangle/rectangle/pentagonal motive.
The suspect pic I saw looked like a white guy
Perhaps not the best choice of words?
Why do I feel like that is four less democrat voters. (Kinda, I know they vote from beyond the grave)
Manson is dead...isn’t he?
I suspect that 90% of Moscow, Idaho’s population is carrying by now. Idaho is a constitutional carry State.
Evidence indicates that this was a targeted attack.”

This is an invite for any budding sociopath.
Stab someone. Community will freak out.
It’s kind of like red flag wind warnings and arsonists.
Then why the reticent behavior. Police must realize how deeply distrusted they are and how the taxpayer holds them in contempt for only wanting to take action against white people.
“...young lives that were cut short...”
This is horrible. And the first I’ve heard of it. One would think this kind of sensational story would make bigger national news.
Killing four young women all in one apartment could be a crime of passion gone wrong (one intended victim but killer stumbled on three witnesses), or a deliberate act of a sociopathic murderer.
I’m pretty sure there is a story of a guy in recent past who killed one roommate and then waited until the others showed up and killed them one by one.
Art Bettge, the mayor of Moscow, Idaho, told The New York Times that the killings were a “crime of passion” but declined to divulge further details.
Three women and a man. The three women were roommates and the man was one of their boyfriends who was spending the night.
I'm guessing ex-boyfriend.
Apparently none of these young people was armed.
I spent a wonderful day in Moscow years ago. Really nice town, small stores, polite people. Hard to imagine this grisly crime committed there.
