Sure, why not. What’s another $473 million? How about infinite “damages?”

Eighth Amendment

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

This is nothing but political vindictiveness. Therefore, the entire case should be thrown out because it’s based on nothing but animus.

It does not appear this was a criminal case, there were no fines, therefore this must be a civil case and the 8th Amendment does pertain to civil cases.

Refresh my memory. Did jones rob a bank? Did he defraud widows of their life savings? Did he evade taxes?

He said something false. He lied.

The precedent has now been set. Your life savings can be redistributed for your words.

A case can be made that punitive damages are effectively fines.
